The Boswellia sacra, where incense originates from, holds both an important economic and spiritual role. It has driven the birth of global trade routes as well as held a religious role throughout history.
This is why Jo Malone’s new release to the Cologne Intense collection, Incense & Cedrat, is set to heighten your senses.
Incense & Cedrat has the distinctive warmth of incense, which has been enriched by three layers of resins. The perfume has the lemon and pepper notes of Elemi which bring out a radiant freshness, Amber-like labdanum ciste highlights that bring out the sensuality of the fragrance while the smooth and sweet benzoin adds a richness at its base. Each of them is intertwined so perfectly that they intensify the character and the nature of the aroma.
What makes the perfume unique is that NaturePrint technology has been used for its production. Incense & Cedrat is based on the Omani incense, which is the most precious in the world. It is harvested from the Boswellia sacra tree found in a swathe of land between ocean and desert, Dhofar. Twice a year the tree is slit which allows the treasured sap to seep out, which then dries and crystallises. However, in recent years the Boswellia sacra has become increasingly threatened.
The reason why NaturePrint is so important to the production of the fragrance is because it has allowed the team behind the perfume to capture the scent of Omani incense without harming the Boswellia sacra or its environment. Incense tears are taken to the fragrance house which are later analysed and an infusion of essential oils is made.
“For me, creating an incense fragrance for Jo Malone London meant a scent with a signature elegance and modernity”, says Master Perfumer Marie Salamagne.
Its strength has been tamed, while its many qualities have been accentuated. The scent can be used on its own or combined with other fragrances to create a unique signature. For example, it can be used with Jo Malone’s With Oud & Bergamot, to create a sophisticated, hypnotic woody fragrance or it can be combined with Red Roses if you feel more spicy and sensual.
