You Can’t Wear A Hat Indoors

I caved in over the festive season and bought one of those ‘on-trend’ bobble hats. Problem is, I’ve become so attached to it I’ve been using it to hide my straw-like hair. Indoors.

It’s not really a good look, so I decided it was time to dig out a hair masque. I love the word masque, particularly as the dictionary definition is ‘a dramatic entertainment performed by players representing mythological figures’. The reality of a hair masque is a little less theatrical, but it’s still an event. Put on one of these every week and you’ll have mythological hair by February, I promise.

Philip Kingsley Elasticizer Pre Shampoo Treatment (£26.25) was original created for Audrey Hepburn and has become an absolute classic. It’s one of those ‘game changers’ – it really does seem to alter the quality of your hair in just one use. Slap it on before you wash – I leave my on for half an hour while I soak in the tub. A shower cap helps but you may face ridicule from children or husbands.

New to my hair rescue armoury is Touché by Flavien’s Intensive Nourishing Treatment (£17). I’m not going to lie to you, the pot is not enormous, but you need about a quarter of what you would use if it was some nonsense on a 3 for 2 in Boots. It’s really creamy and luxurious and is perfect for parched post-highlights hair.

Neal and Wolf’s Harmony Intensive Care Treatment (£12.95) is my go-to for reviving hat-hair in a hurry – you hardly need to leave it on longer than a normal conditioner. Love the posh salon smell of this one too.

There are not many brands that can get away with using a triple ‘e’ in a product name, but Bumble and bumble manage it with their ‘Deeep’ (£21.50). They could frankly call it ‘Pooo’ and I would still use it. It smells like bananas and coconuts and acts like hair salvation.

Finally, my favourite frizz-buster: Richard Ward Silk Protein Masque (£21.51). Hats, central heating and winter in general can leave hair with that unattractive halo of frizz. This bad boy has a way of hydrating without fluffing up. Nice work, Richard.
