I feel brand new

I might have mentioned this before, but I’m not that keen on the term anti-ageing. Because I’m not anti-ageing, I actually feel privileged to be ageing. However, in the context of beauty products, anti-ageing obviously means preventing the issues that come when you’ve been knocking about for a while. Which I have.

So, following that disclaimer, today I’m on the anti-ageing body products. Because skin elasticity doesn’t just decline on your face, it declines all over your body. So why only treat your face to the fancy technology that keeps it looking more plumped up? No reason. Here are my top five slack-busters.

First up is a gorgeous little number that was allegedly found in Victoria Beckam’s washbag. Not by me, honest. It’s Crystal Clear Intense Anti-ageing Body Moisturiser (£28). What a powerhouse this is: non-greasy, sinks in immediately yet leaves your skin almost creepily soft, like someone else’s. Must be down to all the peptides, wheat protein and the like that you’d normal expect in a high-end face cream. Nice work, Crystal Clear.

Future Proof from Mio (£35) is richer and gunkier but still easily absorbed. The idea with this is that you’re getting hydration for an instant softening effect combined with antioxidant and omega actives to build skin’s defences up for the future. The smell is like a summer day. Love it.

Also rich and unctuous is Clarins Extra Firming Body Cream (£40), which boasts eight regenerating and firming plant extracts to ‘help restore the skin’s youthful density and elasticity’. Absolutely love this posh, subtly scented cloud of a cream and the pot looks magnificent on your bathroom shelf.

ClarinsAnother looker in the packaging department is REN Moroccan Rose Otto Firming Crème Riche (£36). It contains hydroxyproline – an amino acid – which plays a key role in collagen strength, while the wonderfully scented Rose Otto gets to work on repairing and restoring lost moisture. Luxe in a jar.

Finally, I read recently that cellulite appears more visible as you get older because the skin dermis starts to get looser, so more fat cells can protrude into it. Nice. So how about an anti-ageing body lotion that does a bit of dimple-busting while it’s there? Hello Green People Age Defy+ Contour & Sculpt Body Lotion (£34.95). Perfect for some pre-autumn firming, this is a delight to use and smells deliciously herbal.
