Richard Ward Top 5 tips for healthy hair

StyleNest have teamed up with Richard Ward to bring you his top tips for healthy hair as the seasons change.

Celebrity and royal hairdresser Richard Ward recently launched The Chelsea Collection Keratin Luminiser. Winter fast approaching, this clarifying shampoo is designed to detox and revitalise tired tresses. Described as his tool kit must-have for a sparkling ‘do, the Keratin Luminiser enhances colour clarity. Providing a brighter tone, locks look replenished and refreshed.

Tip 1.

Trim your hair regularly. A good cut approximately every 8 weeks will help your hair stay smooth, shiny and split-end free.

Tip 2. Avoid washing your hair too frequently. Washing your hair too much can strip it of its natural oils and proteins, which are essential for keeping hair hydrated, shiny and healthy; stick to twice a week if possible – use a clarifying treatment like my Keratin Luminiser (£5.99 / Waitrose) which is designed to detox and deeply cleanse build-up in the hair as well as brighten and rejuvenate dull tresses.

Tip 3. Understand and use the right products for your hair type. There is a treatment for every hair concern out there, from a dry scalp to hair losing vitality; ask your hairdresser to analyse your hair and recommend the right products for your hair type.

Tip 4. Avoid using too much heat. Hairdryers, straighteners and tongs can all damage the hair if used frequently; it can become dry, brittle and dull. If you use heated tools every day, try to give your hair two days off each week and ensure you always use a heat protector to avoid unnecessary damage.

Tip 5. Have a healthy diet. Leading a healthy, varied diet with the right foods and plenty of water will encourage your hair’s health as well as your general health. Hair supplements can also be taken to give hair that extra boost.
