Holland sometimes gets bad press due to its quick association with the red light district and boozy stag weekends. This amazing country has so much more to offer in the way of art, culture and also adventure. One of the best places to go in Holland is Amsterdam, because of its relatively small size it is one of the best cities in Europe to visit on a short break. It is more than feasible for you to get to see and do most things in just a few days.

You can even pick up a 48hr travel card in the city. This allows unlimited public transport throughout the city and entrance to many attractions. It also offers discounts at many restaurants and eateries around the city centre.

Canals

The canals in Amsterdam  are probably the cities best-known attraction. They sprawl around the city centre and are a great way to experience what the city has to offer. You can jump aboard a tour, or you can even charter your own boat and go exploring. The canals go past many landmarks around the city. These give you a fantastic idea of your bearings and where you may want to visit, and stay during your visit, Venere hotels offer many places to stay. The canals in Amsterdam are the most plentiful in Holland, this is because many were filled in when cars first came to Holland.

Art

If you are a devoted follower of art or you hardly know anything I am certain you will have heard of Rembrandt and Van Gogh. Rembrandt has a museum dedicated to his house where you can see where the artist lived not to mention some of his rarer pieces of artwork. Then you can head off to the Rijksmuseum where the artists major works are housed. Like Rembrandt, Van Gogh also has a museum named after him filled with the artists most brilliant works.

Flowers

Tulips are the countries national flower, and the range of flowers is staggering when you visit the Keukenhof tulip park. Obviously tulips are not grown all year round. But if you want to see the most famous of flowers in all their glory you can head to the Amsterdam Tulip Museum, showing the history of the flower all the way up to the present day.

De Wallen

Ok, in the beginning we said it probably wasn’t the reason you would come to Amsterdam. De Wallen or the Red Light District is not only famed for its sex shops it also houses Amsterdam’s China town and quite a few historic venues.

Bikes

One of the best ways to experience the city and get around is via bike. If you are lucky enough to see the city at rush hour, it is amazing to see all manner of people rushing home through the streets dressed in suits and school uniforms. A real departure from how we deal with everyday life.

Anne Frank

No trip to Holland would be complete without a visit to the Anne Frank house. You can visit the room where Anne and her parents stayed for all those years. It is truly staggering that they managed to live and stay hidden for so long. This is a moving and enlightening way to end your trip to Holland.
