With summer just around the corner, now is the perfect time to start getting fit and making sure that you are ready for a fun and action-packed few months. If the thought of going to the gym bores you, or the thought of running outdoors makes you feel queasy, then maybe you need to find a form of exercise that you truly enjoy. Here are a few ideas that you might not have tried yet, or even considered, but which you may end up turning into a new hobby rather than seeing it as exercise – because you love it that much!

Cycling – You may not have ridden a bike for years, but the saying ‘it’s just like riding a bike’ has been coined for a reason. There are lots of ways that you can add some fun to your bike ride: you can make a day of it and see some local sights; maybe stop for a picnic or visit a friend that you haven’t seen in a while. There are also many groups that organise bike rides, both ladies only and mixed clubs, so why not find out what is available near you for added motivation? For the more adventurous amongst us, mountain biking can be huge fun, and there are numerous trails across the UK full of adventure.

Skating – Roller skates are a staple in most people’s childhoods, and still reigns in popularity. However, skating is no longer limited to a few styles; with more options available, ranging from rollar derby to inline skates. Skates’ online skate shop offers the above and much more, including Quad Roller skates, competitive Roller Derby skates, aggressive skates for individuals looking for a skate rank to challenge – they even sell ice skates! Skating is one of the best ways for you to tone your legs and lower body, as well as being a lot of fun while doing so.

Additionally, did you know there are a number of Roller Derby teams across the UK? Therefore, if you like team games and action, this could be the competitive edge you’ve been looking for in your exercise routine. Plus, a sense of community makes exercising seem less repetitive.

Tough Mudder/Obstacle races – Sometimes signing up for an event gives you that extra motivation to start training. If you’re not really into standard running then maybe a race with a difference could be right up your street.

There are all kinds of races that you can apply for that vary from 5K colour runs where you run around to music while having colour sprayed over you to races like Tough Mudder where you have many obstacles to overcome throughout your trial. There are even Zombie Evacuation races for those who have zombie apocalypse plans they need to test out or if you simply enjoy the scare of horror films/games.

Once completing such events, you will have found a great sense of achievement. You never know, maybe you’ll find yourself catching the bug and end up signing up for more races?
