Being healthy during the winter months is paramount. You are more likely to get sick in the cold, wet weather, and your looks can seriously suffer as well. That’s because cold weather cracks skin, damages your hair, and lowers your immune system. All of this combined can make you feel terrible, meaning you won’t be yourself.   1. Sunscreen Even Though It’s Cloudy

One of the biggest mistakes anyone could make is going out without protection for the sun’s harmful rays. What you might not know, however, is that the sun does not need to be visible to cause you harm. That you shouldn’t forget your sunscreen this winter, and if the sun is still beating down on you, you should still protect yourself. The UV rays can penetrate through the cloud cover and still harm your skin, so if you want to keep it looking great this winter, keep your sunscreen habits throughout the year.

  1. Moisturise

Moisturising in winter should be done on more than just your face. The cold weather, particularly if in polluted air, can damage and even crack your skin. This danger is even more severe when you have sensitive skin. When that’s the case, moisturising is a must, and make sure to moisturise your whole body (and especially your hands).

For your lips, opt for a more heavy-duty option. This means choosing Vaseline or more medicinal lip balms that you can ideally spread on thicker than you normally would. Doing this will protect your lips from the freezing winds.

  1. Hair Masks

Your skin isn’t the only thing that gets damaged during winter. Your hair can split and become dull as well. That’s why starting a regimen of using hair masks at home to lock in extra moisture is a good call. Protect your hair further by wearing hats and otherwise keeping your hair inside your coat. That way it won’t be affected by the temperature, whether it is snowing or raining.

  1. Keep Your Immune System Strong

Of course, the true danger of winter is getting sick. Thankfully, even getting soaked to the bone won’t get you sick in and of itself. What does, however, get you sick is a weakened immune system. That’s why during winter you need to do your best to keep your health in tip-top shape. Eat healthier meals, take vitamin supplements, and get a good amount of rest at night. Being sleep deprived is a sure-fire way to lower your immune system, and once it’s lowered, you’re at risk of contracting an illness.
