StyleNest managed to catch five minutes with the stunning Sophie Ellis-Bextor for a quick chat and to find out what the gorgeous mum of three’s shopping secrets are.
Having teamed up with eBay to celebrate their 18th Birthday, Sophie is a self-confessed eBay addict, shopping for eclectic vintage pieces to help find that perfect party look. The new eBay Stories campaign celebrates people at the heart of eBay, giving them an opportunity to tell us of their eBay stories.
A singer, songwriter, model, DJ, style icon and mum as well as other half to Me and Mrs Jones DJ duo with husband Richard Jones, the Londoner certainly has her hands full.
With fifteen years of eBay savvy shopping experience, Sophie shares her exclusive style tips and how she cherry picks those envious show stopping pieces from the comfort of her home.

You have teamed up with eBay to celebrate eBay’s 18th Birthday. What made you decide to collaborate with eBay?
I’ve been a member of eBay since the late 90s and I enjoy looking on there just for the joy of looking, it’s fun to see what’s out there. I use it to bring new life into the house and use it to sell items and I also find great brand-new outfits on there too. So working with eBay on its #eBaystories campaign which is all about celebrating the real people at the heart of eBay, was a no brainer for me.
You joined the eBay community in 1998 and haven’t looked back since. Do you have any secret searching strategies or techniques?
Be adventurous with your searches – you might uncover some gems. Use the ‘refine’ option to get really specific when you want to be, otherwise eBay can be a little overwhelming (there are over 60 million items listed there at any one time). Finally, be bold and trusting. If someone has a good positive feedback rating you will probably find it’s an easy and pleasant transaction. Don’t be scared – it’s only the internet.
You’re a musician, DJ, style icon, self-confessed eBay addict and mum of three. How do you juggle such a busy schedule?
There are a lot of working mums out there, and some weeks you get to the end of the week and think that it worked out pretty well, while with others you want more time with your boys, or think you could have worked harder. I’m doing my best to keep everything going and I genuinely think I’m a better mother because I work.
What are your favourite songs that you’re currently listening to on your iPod?
Probably like the rest of the population it’s the new Daft Punk album. They have always been real innovators and they have always done what they do with real style – that French touch just sounds great. I also love Vampire Weekend’s new album, it’s their third album now, it’s not as successful as Daft Punk but a really good record too.
