Louise Redknapp

Famously known for her 90s Eternal days, Louise Redknapp has proved that she’s not just a one trick pony.

With a keen focus on women’s health and an interest in fashion and beauty, Louise has graced our TVs with observational documentaries as well as being a mum and launching a new business venture, Wild about Beauty.

StyleNest spend five minutes with the gorgeous Louise Redknapp and talk motherhood, makeup and style tips.

You are a mum, businesswoman and just under a year ago launched a makeup line Wild about Beauty, what has been your ultimate achievement?

I don’t think anything can beat becoming a mum; it is probably the role I am most proud of. But aside from that, launching Wild about Beauty has been a major achievement, I don’t come from a business background so I’m pretty proud of what we have accomplished in such a short space of time.

We don’t know how you do it all and still manage to look so youthful and radiant. What are your beauty secrets?

A good base is key; your skin needs to look naturally luminous, not layered with too much make-up. Products need to be creamy and dewy to allow your skin to keep hydrated and illuminated.

Being in the public eye, you must have to be conscious on what you wear. What are your style tips?

My main style tip would be to wear what you are comfortable in so you feel confident. It’s great to take inspiration from the latest trends but always remember to dress for yourself and your body shape rather than wearing items just because they are in fashion.

The idea for Wild About Beauty came about after your pregnancy when you started developing skin issues. What was the inspiration behind the brand?

We were looking for an uncomplicated yet exciting range that celebrated natural looking beauty; an affordable range of high performing products that offered real benefits for your skin.

What were your main inspirations during the design process?

I wanted the brand to be friendly and accessible but at the same time it needed a modern edge. Being an animal lover, it seemed natural for the ‘wild’ element to be brought into various aspects of the design like the dragonfly embossed powder blushers, the bee embossed eyeshadows and the beetle and bug illustrations on the packaging. I am really happy with the result.

How do you juggle a successful career with motherhood?

It is impossible to give everything and everyone your full attention so I think it comes down to prioritising and putting time aside for both work and family. It’s definitely a tricky balance to get right.

You’ve got two little boys, how do you cope being such a girly girl with footballs and boys toys around the house?

I’ve never known any different, I have two brothers so I am pretty used to being in a male dominated family. But I think I do a good job of balancing the boys toys out with shoes and handbags – it’s only fair.

You’ve got two children and are looking great. How do you keep in shape with such a busy schedule?

Working full time and being a busy mum on the go makes keeping in shape quite tough. I am a massive believer in Pilates though, and go as often as I can.

Mums are often expected to be ‘supermum’. Do you think there is too much pressure on women to be perfect at everything?

I do think there is a lot of pressure but I don’t feel that’s limited to women or mums. Everyone experiences pressure, to multitask, to juggle; everyone has different things to deal with. You just have to do the best you can do.

What can we expect to see from you in the future? More in the beauty scene?

I have loved my recent move into the beauty industry and growing Wild about Beauty as a business is definitely a priority. I still enjoy the TV work, so I think there will be some more projects in this area too. The most recent series I’ve done ‘How Not To Get Old’ managed to combine Health, Beauty and TV which was great.

You and your husband Jamie have such busy schedules; what do you like do to unwind with the family?

A holiday is the perfect way to properly unwind and relax with the family; it is an opportunity to spend uninterrupted, quality time together away from life’s daily distractions. A day on the beach with my boys is my idea of heaven.

You’re such an inspirational business woman and mum, what advice would you give to our readers who want to set up their own business?

It’s really scary but don’t be put off by that fear. There are up days and down days but if you believe it can work and put your ‘all’ into making it work then you are giving it the best possible chance. The sense of achievement you get makes the struggles in between worth it.

Do you have any favourite family friendly spots around the UK or London which are great for the kids?

You can’t beat Hyde Park on a sunny day. It’s a great place to take the kids, they love the boats and the playground. You can take a picnic and spend the whole day there – it’s a really lovely place to be.

Sport obviously plays a big part in your family’s life with your husband being an ex pro-footballer. Are you a sporty person?

Haven’t got a sporty bone in my body – I do Pilates and the odd spin class, that’s about as sporty as I get. The boys love their football and golf, they definitely take after Jamie.

Can you clue our StyleNest readers on any exciting projects you are working on?

I’ve actually just launched a fashion blog louandem.com with my friend and stylist Emma Thatcher. It’s a bit more of a hobby really, just somewhere to share the pieces and styles we are loving. I’ve also just co-presented the new series ‘How Not To Get Old’ which was a really interesting project to work on.

Women often lose their confidence and sense of self after having children, what advice would you give to women to help them get their style back after giving birth?

I don’t know whether you necessarily lose your style, it is more a case of having less time. It’s really hard, everything becomes about the baby and there’s little time to spend on yourself. My advice would be to not put pressure on yourself and to just enjoy that precious time with your baby.

You always look so chic and stylish. We can’t imagine you ever having a scruffy day. What is your ultimate wardrobe staple?

A pair of jeans that fit well and make you feel good are key. I also couldn’t be without my leather jacket, it’s a brilliant timeless staple.

What is your failsafe cocktail look?

Cigarette pants, a sexy high heel and some sort of jacket or blazer to suit.

Any top tips for our readers on how to look fabulous in just five minutes?

If time is short, keep your make-up simple and fresh, Wild about Beauty style. I would reach for a radiance boosting tinted moisturiser, a hint of colour for lips and cheeks and a few coats of mascara.

We musnt’t forget your success in Eternal, have you ever thought about dipping back into singing?

I would love to sing again, but I am aware of how tough the industry is. I have been out of that ‘world’ a long time and I now have two young kids and my own business, I don’t know if a come-back would be feasible.

Your style is very relaxed yet elegant, you always look immaculate without being threatening to other women. How would you describe your style?

I would say classic… with a bit of an edge.

What’s your motto?

It costs nothing to be kind.
