Hassan Patel, co-founder of Maison Boo, tells us the importance of organic skincare and his favourite eco-brands. 

Mumpreneurs are taking the business world by storm at the moment; it’s unusual seeing dads in this area.  Where did the idea come from for Maison Boo?

The idea came from my brother, Hamzah.  When his daughter was born, he was apprehensive of using the products that were on the shelf at the time and being from a chemist background, Maison Boo was born.

What other skincare brands do you admire and why?

Boo Boo Baby and Organic Monkey have some great products; I am also very impressed by their ‘Green’ ethics.

What is the importance of knowing what goes in to your own beauty products and those of your children’s? 

The ingredients are most important; knowing what they do and the benefits they hold will determine whether or not you will apply that product on your child.

Any tips for traveling with children?

I would recommend taking a few packets of Natural Baby Wipes as this keeps their skin fresh and moist.

What’s your moto in life? 

You win some, you lose some.

Are you a hands-on dad in the kitchen?

Not really, I did try to make Fajita’s once but it looked like a chicken Jalfrezi.

Do you have a particular restaurant that you love going to that’s also family friendly?

Akbars in Birmingham is a great restaurant, the atmosphere is good and the deco is even better.  I was actually thinking of using the same in my house.

Do you make New Year resolutions? What will yours be for 2012? 

I do make New Year Resolutions but unfortunately, I don’t tend to keep them.  The last one I made was to spend more time in the kitchen but that went down the pan after the first week.
