Sky Ride 2012

Sky Ride 2012Taking place in 45 locations around the UK, Sky Ride 2012 offers cyclists an opportunity to explore their local area on two wheels.

Fun, free and a great way to see the great outdoors, Sky Ride 2012 is in full swing with over 40 British cities and towns taking part. The campaign runs the length and breadth of the country from Edinburgh to Bournemouth, and sets out safe community bike rides in both the countryside and on city routes. Both the old and young can get involved, with safe family routes mapped out, schools taking part and women only rides taking place.

Celeb cycle fans, TV presenter Gareth Jones, model and actress Kelly Brook and DJ Edith Bowman have been chosen as ambassadors for the event, taking part in some of the rides themselves.

Thanks to the likes of Sir Chris Hoy and Victoria Pendleton, cycling is without a doubt the coolest sport of 2012, so we’re backing the Sky Ride campaign and encouraging you all to get on your bikes and out into the Great British countryside and on the winding city roads.

StyleNest cyclers north of the boarder should head to Edinburgh this weekend where Sky Ride 2012 will be kicking off at 9.30am on Saturday 8 September. Take in some of Scotland’s Capital city’s most impressive and iconic landmarks on two wheels, as the Edinburgh ride takes you through the hilly city center streets. With no official starting point or time, your can join the gaggle of two wheelers at your leisure. Scottish DJ and Scot herself, Edith Bowman will be saddling up too to get the crowd going.

Londoners can also get involved, as there are plenty of Sky Rides taking place in the Big Smoke. Westenders and Eastenders see what life’s like as a cycling commuter on Saturday 15 September, as the Kensington and Chelsea and Tower Hamlets Commuter rides will take place. Set off from either Putney Bridge and head east or Victoria Park and make your way west. Either way, you’re sure to see some impressive landmarks from Tower Bridge to Westminster Abby. Both rides take a couple of hours to complete and anyone over the age of 11 is welcome. We couldn’t think of a better way to spend a Saturday morning.

Each of the Sky Rides will be guided by ride leaders, to ensure everyone gets the help and encouragement they need no matter what their age or ability is.
