Edible Cinema Screens Romeo + Juliet

Romeo and Juliet CocktailSoho House’s Edible Cinema returns for 2014 at London’s BAFTA, with a screening of Baz Luhrmann’s cult film Romeo + Juliet.

This May, indulge all your senses with Edible Cinema’s unique movie experience. Taking up residency at London’s iconic BAFTA 195 Piccadilly, the film event will take Baz Luhrmann’s 1996 hit, Romeo + Juliet, and infuse it will food and drink, serving up carefully created dishes and tipples to heighten some of the most famous scenes from the film.

The food-meets-film event follows on from a wealth of successful screenings, which has previously brought the likes of Japanese animation classic Spirited Awayaction adventure Die Hard and indie hit Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mindto life.

This season, screenings will take place over this coming Bank Holiday Weekend, where guests will be treated to an “edible adventure” of scenes from the film. Cinemagoers will have to take ‘sides’ too, as the room will be divided into the “Capulets” and “Montagues”. Each side will experience a slightly different sensory adventure, as each will receive unique cocktails inspired by both the Verona-based families. Expect Bombay Sapphire infused with lime, pineapple and orange juice, cherry heering and angostura bitters for the Capulets, and gin soaked lemon juice, orgeat syrup, orange flower water and soda for the Montagues.

For the menu, Soho House chef Jake Rigby has created an imaginative food experience to reflect some of the film’s most iconic scenes, from a ‘tongue sandwich’ to represent the young lovers’ first kiss, to a mini vial of ‘poison’ to mimic the tale’s epic climax.

Take a group of friends or indeed your very own Romeo, and you’re sure to see one of the best-loved films of all time completely redefined.
