How to decorate with Pantone’s colour of the year – Greenry

If you’re looking for ways to revitalise your space for spring, Pantone’s 2017 Colour of the Year Greenery will give your home an instant reboot. According to Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the colour institute, this zesty yellow-green shade “satisfies our growing desire to rejuvenate” and symbolises “the reconnection we seek with nature, one another and a larger purpose.” So far, so restorative – but how do you make this grassy green work within your home? We spoke to Wayfair’s resident style expert, Nadia McCowan Hill, on the best ways to bring this lush shade to life within your space.

  • While greenery works brilliantly alongside a muted palette, it really sings against deep, inky tones bringing a shot of vibrancy to dark and dramatic settings. Be brave and paint your living room a smoky charcoal or midnight blue, then add furniture, rugs and accents in glorious greenery for a finish that makes a real style statement.
  • This zesty shade also pairs wonderfully with natural finishes; so if you prefer a more muted look, try teaming with wicker, rattan and weathered wood.
  • Pantone describes greenery as ‘nature’s neutral’, lauding its power to refresh and reinvigorate. In the home, try injecting the shade into any space that is designed to help you recharge. A few green touches to your home office will give you a real reboot, while a splash of green in the bedroom will bring a sense of restorative calm.
  • One of the best ways to introduce greenery into the home is through, you guessed it – plants! Try adding a fern or two to an unloved shelf or mantel and see how the space perks up in an instant. Filling terrariums with succulents is another quick and stylish option for the less-than-green-fingered.
  • Look out for botanical motifs in glorious greens for another fun way to bring a touch of spring’s bounty home.Wallpaperswall stickers and cushions which depict verdant green plants will all make for an energized and on-trend interior.
  •  Nod to the swinging Sixties with retro prints in this go-to green. A statement rug within a more minimalist or contemporary setting will bring your space alive.
  • Looking to add a touch of luxe to this natural colour story? Pair a classic green sofa with some burnished metallic cushions and accents and you’ll have a home that feels both harmonious and sophisticated.
