Bath or shower? This is a big question in the UK and one which will always divide opinion. There are benefits to both but people often tend to have a strong opinion as to what the best option is and people tend to adopt habits when it comes to the bathroom. Read on to find out more about the bath or shower debate and what habits Brits have when it comes to the bathroom.

Baths a Thing of the Past?

People tend to view having a bath as a luxury and it is often favoured when someone is looking to pamper themselves and has more time. Studies show that a “relaxing bath” is becoming a thing of the past, though, with just 4% taking long and luxurious baths in a poll of over 2000 people.

Functional Showers

The survey also revealed that a commanding 79% of Brits preferred to have a functional shower as opposed to a bath. It is thought that the speed and efficiency of a shower makes it the more popular option, but this is not necessarily a good thing. Peter Kindman, the professor of clinical psychology at the University of Liverpool, stated “People aren’t maximising opportunities which make them happy.  We could be making better choices about how we spend our time.”

Strict Routines

In addition to this, 61% of respondents claimed that they kept the same routine every day of the week. It seems that most people see their time in the bathroom as somewhat of a chore and prefer a quick “in and out” as opposed to taking the time to enjoy themselves and relax. This is a reflection of society and how people often live in a fast-paced, stressful situation which can be damaging.

A Sacred Space

It is for this reason why people should take the time to relax and enjoy a nice hot bath (or long shower). There is something that is very therapeutic and calming about being in hot water and the bathroom is often the only place that people can get peace and quiet (especially those that live with kids!). This makes the bathroom a sacred space and somewhere that should be comfortable and relaxing.

Improving Your Bathroom and Life

This means that it is worth taking steps to improve your bathroom and ensure that it is somewhere that you enjoy spending time. Having a high-quality bath installed from somewhere like The Bathroom Showroom could make a big difference to your bathroom and also your entire life.

With so many people opting for a shower in today’s day and age, it seems that people are overlooking the many benefits that a nice relaxing bath can bring. While a shower might be best in time-pressured situations, it is also important to make the time to enjoy a bath as this could have a big impact on many areas of your life.
