Getting your home ready for the market is a trying time. Not only do you have a number of considerations to make and tasks to deal with, but suddenly your beloved and comfortable nest becomes less your own, and more a practical feature to make a profit from.

The time during which you prepare your home to sell, and the length of time it’s on the market, can lead you to feel as though you’re not living in your own home anymore. Your home needs to look clean and tidy. Even if you’ve pristinely cleaned, it’s still possible for a home to look untidy if there are too many belongings and dust catchers lying about. Try and eliminate as much clutter as possible – even if it’s just storing a lot of items away in cupboards or wardrobes during viewings – and try and eliminate as many personal items as you can, such as family photographs, so that buyers can better visualise their own family living there.

Consider replacing heavy curtains with light-permitting blinds, and opt for lighter coloured material which can easily reflect light, with white being the obvious choice.

This means making your home appealing in every sense, such as turning on the heating before a viewing, placing scented candles and oils around the property, making it bright and perhaps optimising on soft furnishings to make the living area look more comfortable and inviting.
