If you’ve got an annoyingly small bathroom in your home, making space within it has probably been top of your list for a while. Whether you want more room to move around, use it as your own mini spa, or prevent the kids from always knocking things off the sides, there are a few ways you can create a bigger workable space without having to renovate or extend. Our three tips for doing so are down below; check them out if you’re desperate to make some bathroom changes ASAP.
Make the Sink Work in the Space
A lot of sink units are big affairs. Many modern varieties come with inbuilt cabinets and storage, which when fitted into a smaller bathroom space, bulk out into the room and destroy the flow of traffic. Don’t fall into this trap! Make the sink work for you by finding a variety that fits into the nooks and crannies of small rooms as well.
This could mean you get an angled sink to mount in the corner, which can relieve a wall and give you a lot more floor space to work with. If you can’t fit one of these into your bathroom, get a sink only unit that leaves you with a lot of room underneath the bowl. You can then use this space to your heart’s content and fit whatever you like under there.
Make it a Wetroom
Wetroom bathrooms are the ultimate convenience, but not many homeowners invest in them. And we think this is a real shame! Indeed, if the whole bathroom has the ability to get wet without you needing to worry about where the water is draining or seeping, you can fit anything in there with half the trouble.
Think about upgrading your bathroom in this manner. You’ll likely need to look into Bathroom Suites to find fixtures that are suitable for a wetroom, and replace the floor to ensure the water stays where it is, but you’ll be able to move around a lot more when showering or bathing.
Keep Storage Off the Floor
If you’ve got a small bathroom, placing things on the floor is going to be a total space killer. Really, even if you place storage as close to the wall as possible, you’re still going to have to carefully manoeuvre around to avoid trip hazards. And let’s face it, the more you have to move things to clean, the more annoying you’re going to find the room too!
So try to keep storage items off of the floor and use the walls as storage areas instead. Mount and hang cabinets and cupboards, put a tiered organiser in the shower to keep your most used flannels, loofahs, shampoos and gels in one place, and don’t be afraid to put towel rails up super high.
