Originally inspired by world book day, The Lowndes Bar and Kitchen in London has taken lazy Sunday Brunch up a literary notch.

On a peaceful street in the heart of Knightsbridge, just minutes from Sloane Street, is the Jumeirah Lowndes Hotel; a luxury 5* hotel with a real personal touch. Drawing you in at the front of the hotel is The Lowndes Bar and Kitchen with the perfect outdoor area for a spot of people watching (and what better place to people watch than ostentatious Knightsbridge?!). As fancy as it all is, The Lowndes Bar and Brasserie has a very relaxed vibe; nothing is too much trouble for the staff but there isn’t a glimpse of stuffiness here either.

The menu is made up of ‘Short Stories’ and ‘Great Works’ the former being smaller dishes (granola, porridge) and the latter, more hearty dishes (eggs, pancakes, French toast). The dishes are all very classic with a fancy twist, making them very hard to choose between! There is also the choice of the set menu including bottomless tea or coffee and one choice from the short stories menu and one from the great works menu, or bottomless bubbles if you so wish! A perfect Sunday!

I had the Fresh Fruit Platter short story and the Free Range Scrambled Eggs And Scottish Smoked Salmon Pancakes great works; both served perfectly and full of flavour. My husband went for the Maple Syrup Granola and the Eggs Florentine, which he devoured in record time (even by his standards) and it filled him up (no mean feat!). Hubby enjoyed a couple of beautifully fragrant lattes and I had my usual builder’s tea and a cheeky mimosa!

Adding to the decadence (builder’s tea excluded) is the option of the set menu including the ‘book of the month’ in association with Belgravia Books. It’s a really lovely way to explore different books and escape your comfort zone- or just give you something to occupy yourself with while you’re working your way through bottomless tea and coffee!

With or without the book, The Lowndes Bar and Kitchen is well worth a visit and I will probably see you there as I work my way through the menu!
