My intention was to write a piece about one of Converse’s new shoes, but checking their site compelled me to add a few more.
Brands often lose their way when they try to re-invent or re-imagine classic designs and silhouettes, but whoever is overseeing a number of these shoes is doing a pretty amazing job of updating icons in a fresh, timeless manner to create proper grown-up footwear.
As stated prior here and elsewhere, the Jack Purcell is my favourite Converse shoe, and one of my favourites period.
Here they’ve gone for Alpine stylings and practicality with leather upper (apparently in antique sepia), while a neoprene inner sleeve offers protection from the inclement weather.
The One Star silhouette given a major overhaul. One piece construction in prime leather, Nike sockliner and Zoom air unit throughout for exceptional comfort. This shoe could rehabilitate the term smart-casual on its own.
Waterproofing to the fore in the Purcell boot, and Nike Zoom Air tech for off-the-scale springy comfiness means this is not your run-of-the-mill rubber boot by any means.
It was a task stripping back the design of the Purcell further, but they’ve managed it with aplomb. Full grain leather, hyperfuse construction and all manner of tech under the hood for comfort and style; this is a minimalist shoe which marries classic to modern perfectly. Strong.
More voodoo to add to the technical advances of the Chuck II evolution, such as Nike Lunarlon sole and super soft lining. This 510g Shield Canvas doesn’t so much keep the elements at bay, but actively mocks them for the audacity to try and get your feet wet.
A new shape on me, and one that works remarkably well. As with most of the shoes here, understated styling and wearable tech combine perfectly. This has Counter Climate Shield Canvas to keep your feet dry over warm felt, with a Lunarlon insole to add comfort for the daily grind.
