Another independent British fashion brand has been snapped up by luxury, French conglomerate LVMH. Shoe designer Nicholas Kirkwood announced today that the company has bought a stake in his brand. Exact figures of the sale are yet to be released.

Joining the likes of the world’s superbrands from Louis Vuitton to Dior, Givenchy to Celine, this move is sure to propel the Kirkwood brand to global success. Speculation about the deal began back in March of this year, along with rumours that Kirkwood was to expand the brand, introducing the likes of a handbag range. The merge will give Kirkwood himself, the chance to focus on the creative direction of the brand, as well as open up the opportunity for retail expansion.

The deal is thought to have been headed up by the daughter of LVMH boss Bernard Arnault, Delphine Arnault, who is also Louis Vuitton’s deputy general manager.

“We are delighted to welcome Nicholas Kirkwood in the LVMH group,” explained Arnault. “Nicholas’ talent for shoe design is truly exceptional and I am especially impressed with his commitment to innovation and craftsmanship. Throughout our meetings, I was particularly struck by his entrepreneurship and discovered rapidly that we both discovered the same vision and beliefs.”

Already a favourite amongst fashion set, including Alexa Chung and Sarah Jessica Parker, expect to see a lot more of Nicholas Kirkwood in the coming year.
