John Lewis 150 Years

jl pramThis year marks 150 Years of the iconic British store, John Lewis and to celebrate there are a host of activities, offers and limited edition products on offer.

“Looking back with pride, going forward with inspiration; always innovating and never standing still”

John Lewis, Britain’s best-loved department store, known for it’s wide range of high-quality products, impeccable customer service and most recently those famous, emotive Christmas adverts is celebrating its 150 years in business this year. The first ever John Lewis store opened its doors to the shoppers of Oxford St back in 1864 and ever since has become the most trusted port-of-call for everything from fashion to electricals.

This week, John Lewis are taking a trip down memory lane in order to celebrate 150 years of successful retailing, design and creativity and are hoping to strengthen awareness of the brand and its heritage with exciting campaigns and collaborations. The store are collaborating with some of their long-standing suppliers such as Hobbs, Ted Baker, Mulberry and more, in order to create some unique and exclusive commemorative products. They are also bringing back special edition prints from their archives and adding them to contemporary products; creating exclusive, nostalgic pieces which celebrate the creativity of the brand.

However, it’s isn’t only clothing brands jumping on board to partner up, in store and online you will find an array of products inspired by John Lewis’ heritage including, phone cases detailed with 1960s graphics, electricals which have been recreated in 1950s pastel shades, old-fashioned prams have been brought up-to-date and infused with archive prints and vintage beauty products are being sold in beautifully patterned gift sets.

The John Lewis website has undergone a celebratory revamp too, with a timeline of the brand’s history and success from 1864-2014. A timeline celebrating iconic moments in design and inventions is also featured; for example Coco Chanel introduced jersey and trousers in the 1920s, so John Lewis have recreated the cigarette trousers and brought them up to date for SS14 and the 1960s seen England winning the world cup so the brand have featured ultra HD televisions ready for the matches this summer.

John Lewis are also using the anniversary to promote the brand even further, and are celebrating in store with birthday cake giveaways, a roof garden and exhibition launch, a 150 balloon launch (with prizes) and the best bit, with 150 clearance items for their loyal customers to enjoy.

The brand is integrated into British retailing and consumerism and with such a huge amount of high-quality, contemporary and innovative products forever being launched, there’s no doubt that John Lewis will continue to be one of the biggest and best-loved department stores for years to come.
