People rarely raise an eyebrow at Botox anymore (well, some people can’t, ha ha!) it not the taboo subject it used to be, the same goes for fillers and other injectables. With the public now wise to the fact that the ‘timeless beauties’ and the ‘natural beauties’ are often not so timeless and natural after all, more and more of us are seeking out advanced beauty and anti-ageing treatments.
It seems the desire for these sorts of treatments have increased among all age groups but particularly girls in their late teens and early twenties, seeking that Love Island ‘look’. This is where advanced aesthetics has concerned me – young, impressionable girls, who more often than not, can’t afford to be picky with where they choose to go for their filler/Botox, and it can be a recipe for disaster.
Thankfully, well established, Therapie Clinic, were also aware of this trend and have now become one of the biggest chains of clinic offering advanced aesthetics at affordable prices. Not only affordable but price matched on certain treatments if you find them cheaper elsewhere. Most importantly, Therapie will only allow Doctors to administer injectables, not beauty therapists.
I am not against beauty therapists – I was one, for many, many years (and actually, still consider myself as so) but did you know that filler can blind you? Yes, really. It’s a rare occurrence but filler accidently injected into a blood vessel (particularly around the nose and forehead) can block the blood supply to the eyes and cause blindness – Doctors have a much greater understanding of the facial anatomy than us therapists (although ours is still immense!) they use different techniques when administering needles (such as a draw-back technique that checks for blood in the syringe, telling them if they are in a vessel or not) and essentially, they have the foresight to act quickly if a problem does occur. There are great therapists offering these treatments but unfortunately, they are few and far between, so please don’t take a gamble with your face and health.
Anyway, lecture out of the way (and sorry for scare mongering) I met with Dr Farah at the latest Therapie clinic in Westfield, who explained to me all the treatments they offer and what you can expect from a typical treatment; you meet with a clinic consultant who runs through a very thorough consultation form with you, covering everything from health history to expectations of your chosen treatment. She will take photographs of the area that will be treated and then discuss everything with the Doctor. This process allows for the necessary depth of consultation and saves on the Doctor’s time (enabling the treatment costs to remain lower than average). Dr Farah is fantastic, so incredibly patient and has a softly-softly approach with her patients – she won’t do too much too soon with a nervous patient, but likewise, she will discourage an over-zealous patient if she believes the look they want to achieve will result in an un-balanced appearance. Her work is incredibly precise, she uses different injecting techniques depending on the area she is treating, and constantly steps back throughout the treatment assessing the results at all angles; in short, her work is second to none. Precise, safe and affordable! Check, check, check!
