Muse of London

Muse of London inside salonStyleNest headed to the newly opened Muse of London – the capital’s most forward thinking hair salon.

Muse of London on Mortimer Street is going to shake up the way London’s ladies get their hair done. Firstly, it comes complete with an award-winning team of stylists, headed up by Olsen Twin favourite and Vogue collaborator, Jason Cocking. And secondly, the salon doesn’t just think about what women want done to your locks, but how a trip to the salon can fit into a busy city girl’s schedule.

This forward thinking approach to hair is what sets Muse of London apart from others in the capital. One of the salon’s helpful added extras is that it stays open till 9pm on weekdays, because who realistically gets out of work at 5.30pm anymore?

Furthermore, the salon offers a bike store for those cycling to and from appointments, and it’s dog friendly so your four-legged friends can come along too – sadly no cute mutts were there the day we visited.

All this, and a Smeg fridge packed with soft drinks and wine that you can help yourself to throughout your visit, makes Muse of London feel like a relaxed, real home from home. And considering going to the hairdressers is quite often a daunting experience, is really rather refreshing.

Relaxed and in the chair, we talked through what we wanted with Jason. Due to a few unsightly greys peaking through, we decided on a whole head of permanent colour similar to that of our own, with a few lighter sections to add texture. As first-timers with permanent dye, we expected to be a little apprehensive, but felt in responsible hands at all times.  Cut-wise, we just wanted a simple, great cut to see off those split ends and make day-to-day styling easier.

Jason delivered on both. We were left with super glossy locks, in fact the glossiest they’d ever been, and a fair few comments on how we got our hair so shiny from friends for weeks after. Jason used Tigi Professional colours on us as he does with all clients, and with the result, we’ll certainly be using them in future.

And when we need a top up of our roots, Muse of London’s handy Roots Bar will sort us out. The mini salon within the salon offers express treatments for a fraction of the normal price. A root, gloss or toner touchup cost just £15 and you’re in and out within the hour. The Roots Bar works on a day appointment or walk in basis, ideal if you’ve an event after work or in need of a quick lunch break fix.

Muse of London isn’t just about getting your hair cut or coloured, it understands busy schedules and lifestyles, and works around its clients. It’s a refreshing approach and an enjoyable experience. We’ll definitely be popping in during a lunch break.

Full head permanent colour starts from £50, cut and blow-dry starts from £45 and express treatments from just £15.
