Acne Tips With La Roche Posay

La Roche PosayStyleNest team up with skin expert Dr Samantha Bunting, spokesperson for leading skincare innovators La Roche Posay to bring you the latest tips on acne tips and how to cope.

Acne is the most common skin disease in Western society with as many as 41- 54% of women suffering from acne at some point in their adult life, and women are 4 times as likely as men to suffer from severe disease with 60% of patients presenting breakouts as their primary concerns. – Dr Samantha Bunting.

Every spot starts out life as a clogged pore, so targeting this is key to acne prevention.

Key strategies include:

  • Get rid of beauty habits and products that push you closer to your breakout threshold. Stick to skincare and cosmetics labeled non-comedogenic.
  • Using a product to prevent clogged pores on a regular basis.
  • Keep a ‘fire extinguisher’ to hand to target anything red and inflamed that arises – key ingredients are salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide.
  • Don’t smoke or sunbathe – both can promote the formation of clogged pores. And sun-exposure will worsen the appearance of dark marks left behind by spots.
  • Minimise refined carbs and dairy in your diet and get plenty of zinc.
  • Don’t fiddle. Extraction is not a good solution to the problem of clogged pores and blemishes; treating the root cause is.
  • Be patient – its important to give any acne strategy at least 6 weeks to determine how you’re going to respond.  I tell patients to expect results over the course on months, not weeks.
