Wash and go – 2015 style

I have a new haircare obsession. Remember conditioning shampoos, 90s style, like Wash ‘n’ Go? Rubbish, weren’t they? Well, there’s a new ‘take one bottle into the shower’ product in town, and it’s called a ‘cleansing conditioner’, or ‘co-wash’. Excited? I am.

If you wash your hair every day, it doesn’t get that dirty. But it might need a freshen-up and condition so that you can restyle it to perfection. And that’s when these bad boys come in. They’re speedy, they cleanse just enough and most of all, they condition. Then, twice a week, you can really bust the grime by using your regular shampoo, and deep condition with a mask. Why did nobody think of this before? Here are my top five.

First up is WEN by Chaz Dean Cleansing Conditioner (£48 for a trio from QVC). I’ve tried the Sweet Almond & Mint, which is for damaged hair, but the trio also has Cucumber Aloe for oilier scalps and Lavender for volumising. It’s rich, unctuous but feels like it’s cleansing too. And you can also use it as a leave-in conditioner, how cool is that?

WenNext is my purse-friendly option from Superdrug: Hair Therapy Cleansing Conditioner (£4.99). I’ve tried the Colour Care version with orange and jasmine – this is a great one to have by the shower for a speedy midweek wash that leaves hair super-silky.

Ojon was my saviour when I had super-long curly hair but I am still loving its nourishing work now I have a ‘lob’. Rare Blend Moisture Rich Cleansing Conditioner (£18.50) is called the ‘Royal Shampoo’ by my daughter due to its gold bottle and is my go-to when I need deep conditioning in a jiffy.

I have left my hair naturally curly a few times since I got it chopped off and when I do I always use Aveda’s Be Curly range. Their Co-Wash (£20.50) is a frizz-busting powerhouse and moisturises curls for up to three days.

Finally, a game changer of a hair product from Julien Farel. It’s called Vitamin Restore (£28) and it’s an all-in-one cleanse, treat and condition formula. Containing hyaluronic acid, it apparently extends your hair’s growth cycle. What I notice is a totally different, healthier texture after just one use. Fabulous stuff.
