Pack up your pomegranates

Said nobody ever. OK, so there aren’t many phrases relating to pomegranates, but there should be, because they are practically miraculous in terms of what they can do for your skin.

Pomegranate oil has a small molecular structure so it penetrates deep into the skin, and is good for both oily/combination skin as it reduces redness, and mature skin as it promotes collagen production. It’s also packed with anti-oxidants and relieves sunburn as well as reversing sun damage. Holy moly. Here are my top five pomegranate beauty products.

First, for face. I mentioned this a while ago but it really is one of my go-to cleansers of an evening: Body Shop Pomegranate Softening Cream Cleanser. It tingles slightly when you put it on but that just feels like it’s doing its job. It also dissolves make up a treat – and all for just £12.

Twice a week, I’m loving Primavera Rose & Pomegranate Revitalising Organic Face Scrub (£15), which is super-gentle thanks to the micro pearls of jojoba wax, and is packed with all that pomegranate power in the form of pomegranate oil. Smells lovely and posh too.

Post-cleanse, I have had my love of toning rekindled by Janjira Pomegranate & Acai Micellar Water (£28) which is less a toner more of a ‘second cleanse’. It dispatches remainders of grime and make-up and gives you a lovely glow thanks to the pomegranate, teamed this time with acai, Japanese rose and mushroom.

For hands, slap on some unctuous Weleda Pomegranate Regenerating Hand Cream (£11.95) which is my favourite kind of texture for mitts. Creamy but not greasy or the weird waxy texture you get from that well-known ‘arctic’ brand. The pomegranate is there to make hands look less erm, old. Not that, in my view, there’s anything wrong with old hands. But it’s gorgeous anyway and I really like Weleda packaging so this one ticks practically every box.

Finally, for your locks, is a wonderful duo from Burt’s Bees: Very Volumising Pomegranate Shampoo and Conditioner (£9.99 each). Even though I’m curly-haired, I do like a bit of volume when I’ve blow dried my barnett as it’s quite fine, and this shampoo and conditioner use jojoba protein and lovely old pomegranate oil to give shine and oomph. Let’s hear it for pomegranates…
