Oil me up

My hair is in agreement with the weather – summer is over. It’s had enough of the sunshine, chlorine and less than diligent haircare routines. So, even though I’m secretly holding out for another heatwave in September, I’ve decided to make like it’s autumn and give my barnet some TLC.

I’ve been trying out some new oils, which might make those of you with shorter or oiler hair than mine go EEK. But the good news is, these new formulas cross oil with a serum or elixir-like texture so there’s no danger of looking like an oil slick – and every chance you’ll be flicking your mane like Ms Aniston mark two.

First up is the somewhat oddly named Ed Lush Blonde from Chill (£14.99). I’ve just had my colour ‘done’, which always dries it out a bit just to add to all the other summer abuses – so this oil/serum hybrid with its violet pigments to tone down brassiness (love that word) while it nourishes is ideal.

Orofluido Beauty Elixir (£14.95) is a powerhouse of three organic oils: argan, cyperus and linseed, and has become a firm favourite with me. It smells wonderfully luxurious and autumnal, you can use it on wet or dry hair, and it really does change the texture of my locks quite dramatically.

I wasn’t sure about the whole ‘ageing hair’ thing until I began to feel that the few grey hairs I have were starting to make my hair feel a bit coarser. So I was excited to try Label M Therapy Age Defying Radiance Oil (£25.50), and give it back a bit of youthful va-va-voom. Light as a feather, this oil is perfect for a post-summer boost.

When I’m blow-drying, my go-to oil is Joico K-Pak Color Therapy Restorative Styling Oil (£13.55), which doesn’t just hydrate and smooth, it protects from heat styling and weirdly reduces drying time. Like a one-stop-shop oil and blow-drying prep. Love it.

And talking of love, Moroccanoil. You’ve probably all tried it by now, because this stuff isn’t new. But I couldn’t talk about hair oils without saying, Moroccanoil, I salute you – you are a true hair game-changer. And if you’ve already experienced the wonders of the classic Moroccanoil Treatment for all hair types (£31.85), there are now several other marvellous products in the range.
