Neck and neck

Necks are funny things. You don’t really notice them until they become a problem. But, as punctuality is something I’m quite into, I’ve decided not to miss the opportunity to stop my neck from turning into a turkey’s before it needs to. When it does of course, that’ll be fine too, because it’s my neck, and therefore I love it.

Although taking your moisturiser down over your décolletage is all well and good, the skin there is actually different from your face – so a harder working cream for that thin, crêpey area is a good idea and not just a way to get you to spend more money. OK, it’s probably both. Here are my top five anti-turkey products anyway.

First up is Elemis, who have something in their ‘pro-collagen’ range for that area: Pro-Collagen Lifting Treatment Neck and Bust (£73). It’s not exactly a steal but it comes with a power-house of natural actives, as well as super-impressive results in clinical trials. Great if you’re already seeing signs of neck wear and tear.

ElemisI’ve been dying to try Temple Spa for ages, so was really excited about Exalt (£38), their neck cream-gel. It’s as delicious as I hoped: a melting, pale pink, deliciously scented concoction containing olive oil. It sinks in quickly though and doesn’t leave you with a greasy neckline, just a fresh fragrance under your nose and a smooth cleavage.

Murad Rejuvenating Lift for Neck and Décolleté (£63.50) is another luxe buy that packs a punch. It promises an impressive increase in skin firmness of 42% after just one application. Which is almost as attractive as its subtle fruity scent, thanks I imagine to the bearberry and liquorice root extract.

From Dr Nick Lowe comes The Secret is Out Neck & Décolleté Firming Cream (£33) – my summer choice. Not only does it fade existing age spots, which seem to gather in the cleavage area, it also boasts an SPF15 – ideal for protecting that delicate area when you’re out and about in the sun.

Finally, my new discovery, the Aroma Actives range from Aromatherapy Associates creator Geraldine Howard, exclusively at Sainsbury’s. This is just gorgeous. For a steal, you can get a wonderful, spa-tastic cream that is a pleasure to smooth on. Leaves your turkey neck well and truly plumped up – and it’s not even Christmas.
