May contain strobe lighting

I’m not normally one for a beauty buzzword but I have to tell you about strobing. Sounds a bit silly, but bear with me. Because if you’ve read about contouring (strategically placed light and dark shades on your face à la Kardashian to make you look slimmer/more radiant) and thought, life’s too short, then this might be for you.

It’s contouring that you can do in two minutes and uses only highlighter (that pearly, pale makeup), applied where light would naturally hit your face (cheekbones, brow bones, forehead, nose, and chin.) Try it, and once everyone has said, “You look well”, you’ll be addicted. Here are my top five.

To kick off is a great first-time strober: Autograph Twist Up Cheeks Highlighter (£9.50). The chunky crayon makes it easy to do a ‘c’ shape from brow bone onto to the top of your cheeks and then a ‘T’ with a line across the top of the forehead and then down the nose to the chin. Sounds weird, but once you’ve blended, it’s as natural as if your skin is so glowy it’s caught the light.

Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish Correcting Highlighting Perfector (£23) is a clicky brush style applicator that makes it super easy to apply. This is great for that ‘c’ shape around the eyes – highlighting your brow bone and hiding straggly brows, then dotting in the corner of your eye for a wide-awake look.

High Beam from Benefit (£15.60 from QVC) was one of my first ever highlighters but I didn’t really know what I was doing with it ten years ago. Now I know to use the little brush to dab it on where the light hits. This is the perfect luminous glow without a hint of glitteriness.

You know how I love a multi-tasker? Clarins Instant Light Radiance Boosting Complexion Base (£26.50) is one of those. I’m not sure you’re actually meant to use it for strobing but I like a squirt mixed with my foundation or tinted moisturiser, then a dab on those strobing zones for extra radiance.

Finally, an absolutely peach of a product from Studio 10. Youth Lift Glow-Plexion (£24). Enriched with skin plumping hyaluronic acid, this can be used as a luminosity-boosting primer or as a strober. It’s thick, easy to apply, lasts all day and is honestly the most natural glow-getter I have ever come across. Go, strobe!
