Love your lotion

Is your lotion (cleansing lotion, to be more specific), working as hard as it should, and shifting your makeup at the end of the day? If not, let’s talk.

As much as I like a balm cleanser, I also like a lotion in the evening, which I flannel off with warm water. At this time of day I’ve got some slap on – so I need it to get rid of mascara as well as cleanse. Here are my top five lotions with makeup removal oomph.

First up is from brand crush Lavera. Basis Sensitiv Cleansing Milk 2 in 1 (£7.45) is a cracking buy for under £8 and ideal for those of you with a sensitive eye area (more on that in a couple of weeks). It shifts eye makeup in one wipe and leaves skin feeling calmed.

Skincere is a new range available exclusively at Holland & Barrett, where I go anyway for my chocolate covered dates. It’s completely free from gluten, soya, dairy and nuts, the idea being that these allergens can make sensitive skin flare up. I’m not that sensitive but I really love the Cream Cleanser (£19.99) because it doesn’t smell of much, it’s not greasy and it removes make up gently and thoroughly. Job done.

When I’m after a cleanser that’s going to do a bit more repair work, Crystal Clear Wipe Away The Years (£27) is such a treat. Smells lovely, dissolves makeup in seconds and you can practically feel all those peptides doing their stuff and leaving you looking, not years younger (who’d want that?) but miles better.

Crystal Clear

Loving Odylique at the moment. Creamy Coconut Cleanser (£18) has been around just long enough to earn a string of awards. No wonder – its blend of olive oil, coconut oil, lemon and rosewater lifts away makeup and impurities and smells delicious in the process.

Odylique

Finally, if you’re wandering around Harvey Nichols beauty hall, as I find myself doing a lot, in a kind of trance, look out for a South African brand called Environ. AVST Cleansing Lotion (£32) is a real peach, with olive oil and jojoba seed oil extracts, but it’s completely non-comedogenic (it doesn’t clog pores), and I found it really calming and balancing on my break-out prone skin. Definitely worth checking out the whole range.
