I spent ages on that headline. Anyway, brows. I’m all in favour of a good brow, are you? But I have to say that I’m not that keen on a pencil. I find them really hard to get right – I always end up looking like Rachel when Ross did her makeup in Friends.

So for ages I just left my brows alone, relying on the fact that they’re reasonably dark and an OK shape. But recently, I’ve got back into doing them, thanks to a couple of new palettes – and some brow gels that contains pigment, but brush on like mascara. Fancy some high-brow conversation? Read on.

First up is a new-ish addition to the Clarins makeup range, Perfect Eyes & Brows Palette (£35). This is a kind of brow ‘one stop shop’, with everything from tweezers and brow colour to a finishing wax and highlighting shadow. If your brows don’t look awesome and you have this in your handbag, you need to have a word with yourself.

Cargo Brow Kit (£18) is perfect for touch-ups on the go. It includes a powder, a tinted wax, a mirror and mini angled brush. I went for ‘Medium’, which is great for a bit of face-framing definition, and the wax sets the look once you’re done.

I’ve just about finished my new Clinique Just Browsing Brush On Styling Mousse (£16) and I’d like to announce that it’s an absolute triumph. Aside from the name, which is genius, this is such a great 10-second brow groom and does not shift all day. You can tidy, tint and then smooth all with one stroke of the mascara-style brush. I like Soft Blonde, which is dark enough for light brown brow like mine.

My purse-friendly choice for this week comes from Autograph. Fibre Sculpting Brow Gel (£9.50) is a great little makeup bag addition for under a tenner. It contains fibres, which make it ideal for sparse brows – you can build up brow volume in the same way mascara builds up lashes. The tint gives them a bit of extra oomph too. Lovely.

Finally, from Lord & Berry is a Glacée (£11). Did you know your brows needed a glacée? Me neither. But they do: this gel adds shine and grooms your brows, and even contains Vitamin E to condition. It does have a tint but it’s a ‘suits-all’ natural. Browtastic.
