Get your legs out

I got my legs out last week when it was all summery. It was awful. Thankfully, the wind has cooled down to a normal, April chill so I’ve put them away again, but mark my words, when they come out next month, I will be ready.

I’m not talking about any beach body ready nonsense – I mean making my pins look less like chicken roll and making me feel good about myself. I’ve got a five-point product plan that I thought I’d share – and not a body lotion in sight.

First up, a body brush. I’ve resisted using one so far as they look scratchy, boring and time consuming. But, it turns out, they do make a difference to skin tone. I’m going to try a few more but in the meantime check out The Mio Body Brush (£14.50), which you can use wet or dry and includes lots of instructions for brush novices like me.

Boosting circulation is one thing but sometimes you need a bit of exfoliation to get rid of all that winter scaliness on your shins. Crystal Clear Body Polish (£32) reminds me of biscuit dough that’s too sticky to roll out. It’s lush, and why I like it for legs is that you can take it right over the back of your ankles and heels and it still performs on that extra-rough area.

Post shower, my go-to for blitzing dullness is Clarins Renew-Plus Body Serum (£40). It’s really more of a lotion but packs a serum-like punch when it comes to restoring lost radiance on skin that’s been under jeans for six months. Smells delicious too.

After two kids, I’ve noticed that the veins on my legs are more noticeable. I don’t think they need ‘work’ (yet) but in the meantime, I’m using Cloud 9 Nature’s Miracle Soothing Leg and Varicose Vein Treatment (£30.00) which contains arnica to help soothe aches and grapeseed oil to reduce swelling.

Finally, time to stop those calves looking like the only time you put on a skirt this year was for the eclipse. My best pastiness-fix at the moment (and there are more to come soon) is TanOrganic Self-Tanning Oil (24.99). Blend just a few drops of the oil on your legs the night before you’re planning shorts and they’ll all think you’re Gisele. OK, Gisele’s sister, who also has great legs.TanOrganic
