Drink it up

I’ve decided, after counting nine products during my bedtime skincare routine the other night, that there is no room on my face for any more. For the time being, anyway. Thankfully, I’ve found another way of squeezing in skin firming ingredients, via a different route. It’s all about drinking, something I’ve shown myself to be rather good at in the past.

Sadly, however, I’m not talking cocktails. These are collagen drinks, the latest approach to ‘beauty from the inside out’. I’ve been giving some a try over the last couple of weeks and here are my top five.

First up is Gold Collagen Forte (£39.99). The box holds ten mini ‘shot’ bottles that contain hydrolysed collagen and a blend of borage oil and vitamins – perfect for the run up to a big night out or event. The packaging is gorgeously exotic looking, and although the shots aren’t delicious, they have a sharp, fruity taste that is certainly palatable.

Also in a ‘shot’ style bottle is Thalgo Booster Collagene Youth & Glow Elixir (£29.50). Again, you get ten mini bottles and the idea is that you do a three-month course periodically as a skin booster. The bottles contain marine collagen, vitamin C, anti-oxidant nutrients, vitamin E, selenium and hyaluronic acid – and taste a lot better than tequila.

Wassen Collagen (£19.99) is a purse-friendly option if you’re just dipping your toe into collagen drinks (so to speak). Instead of ready-made shots, these are sachets that look a bit like café-style sugar tubes. You pour the contents into a glass and make a not-too-unpleasant orange flavour drink with water. A great choice for when you’re travelling.

Collagen Re-Nu Liquid Shot from SkinPep (£38.99) is blackberry flavoured, contains stevia instead of sugar and comes as granules in a big resealable bag, which you mix up into a drink. What I like about this one is that it is aimed at hair, nails and joints as well as skin, contains flax seeds and is vegan-friendly.

Finally, The Phytocollagen Molecule from Fountain (£39.99). I love the way you can either take this directly (two teaspoons) or add (it’s apple flavoured) to other things like smoothies. As well as 5000mg of hydrolysed collagen in each serving, it contains marine wild phytoplankton, which notches up over 65 nutritional properties. And it looks gorgeously fancy on your kitchen shelf.
