Compliments of the season

The season being, autumn going on winter. And the compliments being things like: ‘Wow, your skin looks amazing’. But if you want this to happen, you need to start your preparation now, because the colder months are not kind at all to the complexion.

I’ve got some tricks up my sleeve. Already, I’ve switched from night cream to restoring oil to make sure the protective barriers that my skin naturally has – against both the elements and the thermostat – are firing on all cylinders when the inevitable cold snap arrives.

Origins Youth Renewing Face OilOrigins had added a face oil to its Plantscription range, which I was very excited to hear as I just love the Anti-aging oil free cream with SPF 25. And the Youth-renewing face oil (£38) does not disappoint, containing an impressive twenty oils and giving an immediate, plumped-up feeling by morning. It’s more of a ‘pat on as much as you need’ oil than a ‘massage in’ type and I’m quite happy with that – two or three drops suffice.

Angela Langford Bloom Glow Angela Langford, one of my favourite small brands, knows how to do a face oil and my choice for cold weather prep is her Bloom & Glow (£22.55). It contains rosehip, jojoba, Evening Primrose and Chia Seed oils, and I find it just a joy to use: so balancing and restoring it’s as if my skin has a new lease of life by the morning.

Beatitude Skin SalvationWhen the heating, and the Shiraz, has made my skin feel tight by bedtime I reach for Beatitude Skin Salvation (£36), an amazing radiance booster containing oils of oat, camellia, daikon radish, immortelle and evening primrose oils as well as black cumin seed oil. The bottle looks beautiful on the bathroom shelf, too.

Melvita Extraordinary Oil For a multi-tasker, I love Melvita L’Or Bio (£27.50), a blend of five oils including argan. It smells delicious and you can use it all over, on your body, hair and face. Perfect after an evening bath to make you feel totally pampered. I’ve also got the shimmering version which I’ll be making use of when the party frocks come out.

Darphin Flower Nectar And finally, something super-luxe from Darphin: 8-Flower Nectar (£94). This is one of these amazing products that is such a pleasure to use you look forward to getting ready for bed. You only need five drops, and you breathe in the scent before gently massaging it over your serum. Absolutely divine.
