It’s In The Bag

StyleNest’s Beauty Bird, Eleanor Tucker, talks you through makeup bag essentials in time for those warmer Spring/Summer months.

I’ve been all about the beauty spring-cleaning the last few weeks. Now it’s time to give my messy old makeup bag a clear out and inject some life into it for the sunnier months. Frankly, it’s a lot more fun than dusting the tops of the pictures, isn’t it?

You know how it goes: summer skin can carry off a lighter base, and anything too dramatic looks suddenly look out of place in golden sunlight. So here are my five new makeup bag favourites to take me into the summer term.

First up is a new base. I’ve been using a mineral powder for most of the winter, but now I want something a bit more sheer. This is a real find: Ginvera Green Tea Nude Cover BB Cream (£18). It contains green tea, ginseng, Chinese angelica and hyaluronic acid, and has a SPF of 30. It smells lovely, and looks peachy on without being too sticky or dewy. I am a bit in love.

I am all about a bit of blusher these days, and my new favourite is Clinique Cheek Pop (£16.50) in Berry Pop. It’s perfect on a sheer base like a BB cream because although it goes on with a brush, it sits like a cream, so you get the control without the powdery finish. Genius.

For an extra bit of glow, how about the limited edition Radiance Glow Bronzer (£19.50) from Liz Earle? This is great for me as I’m a bit scared of powder bronzers. But what this does, especially if you stick to the lighter shades in the palette, is just give a bit of ‘been out for a country walk’ to your complexion.

I don’t have a lot of time for faffing with my eyes in the morning but what I’m really getting into is a bit of brow action. This double-ended pencil is really helping me out: Lancôme’s Le Sourcil Pro (Limited Edition, £18.50) in Blonde. One end is a creamy, nude highlighter, on the other, a matte brow crayon which gives me just enough ‘Cara’ to be age appropriate. It’s out on May 1st.

Finally, a new mascara (as we’re meant to replace them every 6 months). Mine is Eye of Horus mascara (£17), which contains Egyptian moringa oil to strengthen lashes and promote growth – very welcome on my spindly efforts. And it doesn’t budge or smudge either. Result.
