As the crowning glory of beauty, hair should be properly taken care of. However, because of harsh chemicals that are included in hair products, your hair will be damaged. You might not see its immediate effects, but it’s inevitable in the long run. The good thing? You don’t have to go to over-the-top hair salons or purchase costly hair products to save your hair.

If you’re not a fan of DIY projects or simply don’t have the time to go through making your own hair product, there are many brands that offer organic products for hair. Overall, organic products are better for having healthier hair and scalp. Especially if you have sensitive skin, then this article is perfect for you!

Here are 7 organic recipes you can use to treat your hair.

Baking Soda and Apple Cider Vinegar Shampoo

Some shampoos can break down the natural oils of the hair that it needs for moisture and health. Don’t worry! You don’t need to shop around for high-priced individual ingredients to have an organic shampoo. You can just look around what’s available in your house. The recipe below is also alright whether you have dry, normal, or oily hair!

Add hot water to some tablespoons of baking soda in an empty bottle before shaking it well. You can even add essential oil, so it has a great smell. When it settles, rinse your hair with about ¼ of the solution and follow up with ACV mixed with water. You can also use lemon juice as an alternative.

Egg Yolk and Olive Oil Hair Mask

Do you think eggs and olive oil are only good for cooking? Wrong! This combo is also good for dry or damaged hair and strengthens the strands as well. It also promotes hair growth! Other ingredients you can use as a substitute for olive oil are honey, coconut oil, and banana.

Beat two to three eggs and add the additional ingredient until it’s frothy. Then slowly work it through your hair. To get rid of the smell of the egg, you can add some drops of lemon juice. Leave the mixture on your hair for about 20 mins, covering it with a shower cap or a thin fabric shirt. (A tip: You can also repurpose a plastic shopping bag!)

When the egg dries on your hair, rinse it with cool water. Be careful not to use hot water as it makes the egg clump in your hair, making it harder to wash out the egg. You can do this once or twice a month for maintenance.

Natural Hair Dyes

You read it right – natural hair dyes! You don’t have to ask for an appointment in your local salon or buy colour mixes and sprays that can potentially harm your health. Nature has available hair dyes waiting for you. Of course, the following natural hair dyes will depend on your hair colour, but they are all worth a try.

For a Red-Orange Tint to Maroon Color – Beet Juice or Carrots

Prepare the natural hair dye by mixing the ingredient with a carrier oil. You can choose coconut oil, shea, avocado oil, apricot kernels, olive oil, grapeseed, or almond oil. Apply it to your hair, wrap, and wait for it to set. For a deeper colour, you can repeat the process the next day.

For Red Hair That Can Last Up to Six Weeks – Henna

Typically used for temporary tattoos with vibrant colours, preparation for henna as a natural hair dye can be tricky. First, you need to mix ½ henna and ¼ water until the solution is similar to mashed potatoes. Add more water to achieve similar consistency. Let it rest for 12 hours, and add some more water so you can apply it to your hair.

For Lighter Hair Colour – Lemon Juice

You don’t need to wait for the sun this summer to lighten up your hair. Lemon juice has natural capabilities that break down pigments and make the hair lighter over time. Simply put the juice in a spray bottle and spray it on your hair. Comb through it to make it even and leave it for an hour before washing it out. You can also use chamomile tea to achieve a similar effect.

For Darker Colour – Coffee

Get a strong dark-roast coffee and mix half a cup with two tablespoons of ground coffee, along with a cup of no-rinse conditioner. Put the mixture on damp hair and let it rest. Sage is also a popular choice to cover grey hair.

Cacao Deep Conditioner

For a vibrant and additional volume, try cacao! Chocolate is not only for desserts – but it’s also a good ingredient for your hair. Take a cup of Greek yogurt and a quarter cup of raw cacao powder. Mix it with three tablespoons of oil and some drops of lavender and rose hips seed oil. Apply it to washed hair, let it sit for 30 to 45 minutes, and wait for your strands to detangle themselves from each other!
