If you’ve been invited to a wedding, then you might already be wondering what you’re going to wear. In many cases, an outfit can be personalised and elevated with the help of the right choice of accessories. This can be a powerful means of injecting a little bit of your personality into your ensemble, and helping to tie everything together.

Choosing the Right Jewellery

In most cases, if you’re attending a wedding, ‘accessories’ means ‘jewellery’. You’ll want to pick out something that matches with your outfit, which means paying attention to colours and textures. Gold and green tend to work well together, as do silver and purple. However, you’ll want to be sure that the items you’ve chosen don’t risk overpowering everything else that you’re wearing.

You should think about the neckline of your dress, and the sleeves, too. Think about how you might fill empty space, or leave it empty. Think about where the lines formed by the creases and edges are going to fall. If you’re in doubt, try testing your chosen combination in front of a mirror. If it doesn’t look right, then the chances are good that it isn’t right.

For example, if the neckline of your dress is particularly detailed, you might go for showier earrings. Think about visual clutter, and how you might neaten things up where required.

Mixing Metals

For those new to jewellery, the common advice is to avoid mixing metals. This will help you to avoid clashes and ugliness – but in some cases, you’ll also be surrendering a chance to create something unique and stylish. Silvers, rose golds, and golds can all sit well together, provided that there are no other background colours jarring against them. In most cases, you’ll have greater scope for mixing metals if you choose a dress that’s fairly plain, in a reserved colour. Choosing a metal that compliments your wedding guest dress is important as wearing something you feel confident will ultimately, make your night even better.

Incorporating a Statement Piece

A statement accessory is something that will draw the eye, and act as a focal point. Done right, the inclusion of a statement piece can help to elevate the surrounding accessories, and the outfit as a whole.

Of course, it’s very difficult for two different items to serve this purpose at the same time (if we discount symmetrical pairs of items, like earrings). It’s better in most cases to choose one standout item, and dial back everything else, so that the statement piece has a chance to shine.

Choosing the Right Handbag

While you’re understandably going to be placing great emphasis on the jewellery you’ll be wearing, it’s also worth thinking about your handbag. Small bags, like clutches, are ideal for this occasion, as you won’t want to be carrying around anything bulky or cumbersome all evening. Match the bag with your dress, and with your personal style.

Don’t Forget About Hair Accessories

In most cases, you can decorate the top of your head with the help of a few choice clips, bows, combs or headbands. It’s generally a good idea to keep things reserved, since ostentatious items, like tiaras, risk drawing too much attention.

Pay Attention to Footwear

The other end of your body might also need decoration. The right shoes are critical, but be sure that you’ve chosen something that’s appropriate for the venue. If the wedding is happening in the middle of a field, or a forest, then flats might fit the bill better than heels.
