How to Have a Fantastic Family Holiday on a Budget

Family VacationYour kids can’t wait for the next holiday right?

Half term, winter, spring… each holiday is just more exciting that the last.  And especially summer holidays.  Remember how they endlessly stretched on, and it almost felt as though they would never end.  The summer days, the running around, the no school, the complete lack of homework.  It even gets to the point where your kids look forward to going back to school!

Well, don’t let that happen!  Of course, they can’t stay around the house all the time.  They’ll go a little loopy, to say the least.  Kids need to go out, see the world, and have adventures.  They have fun, and it makes them more confident and better at dealing with the world, and other people.

But, perhaps money’s a little tight.  However, so what if you can’t quite afford to fly to Australia this year.  Or even fly anywhere at all.  There is tons you can do to have a great holiday on a budget.  Whether you’re staying in your local area.  Or perhaps travelling a little but avoiding flights and just driving.  Well, here is just three ideas:

How About a Staycation?

This is the cheapest holiday of the all.  Either stay at home and just visit your local area each day.  Anywhere you can make it there and back the same day.  So perhaps set a limit of 50 to 100 miles in any direction.

This could be as simple as a country walk, visiting local historical monuments, or even just a fun day out to Thorpe Park.

Or kick this up a notch, and stay in a bed and breakfast.  It’s not quite a staycation, but it’s pretty close.  Doesn’t cost a huge amount, and is more exciting than coming back home each day.

And definitely check out Groupon, LivingSocial, and other voucher sites.  You may be surprised at the bargains in your area.

The Great Outdoors

Kids love the outside.  In fact, if you don’t take them out in the morning they’re often a bit loopy for the rest of the day.  So what could be better than them being outside nearly all the time!  So consider camping.  Either in the UK, or even abroad.  France is just a hop over (or under) the Channel.  So you can enjoy the outdoors while speaking French.

This of course works best when the weather’s nice.  But if it’s not too cold, and wet, and windy, even a winter break might be fun.

There’s camping at places like www.lux-camp.co.uk.  There’s glamping (posh camping), and you can even stay in a caravan.  But kids truly do love camping.  Putting up the tent, blowing up the beds, getting all cosy inside.  And even getting up early and going to the shared bathrooms.

Go Where There’s Less People

Why always go to the tourist spots?  They’re fun, and there is so much going on, but they’re pricey.  Everything’s more expensive – travelling there, staying there, buying food there, visiting attractions.  So look a little further afield at places that are still great, but don’t cost quite as much.  Those are often the areas that the locals go to, but not the tourists.  The hidden hot spots, if you will.
