Hotel d’Inghilterra, Rome

Located just by Rome’s famous Spanish Steps, the historic Hotel d’Inghilterra provides the perfect spot from which to explore the city. A member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, the hotel is set in an 18th century building once home to John Keats. It has since seen stars such as Elizabeth Taylor and Ernest Hemingway pass through its doors, adding an extra touch of glamour to an already luxurious stay.

Set in a beautiful 18th century building, the Hotel d’Inghilterra boasts a long and impressive history. A former guest house for visitors to the palace of the Princes Torlonia, poet John Keats also once lived in the building, which was turned into a hotel in 1845. Many famous names have since past through its doors, including Hans Christian Anderson, Elizabeth Taylor, Ernest Hemingway, and the Duke of Edinburgh, securing its place as one of the most famous and glamorous addresses in Rome.

Each of the 100 rooms has been individually decorated to offer a unique stay at the hotel. Respecting the hotel’s heritage many rooms are in keeping with the building’s original aristocratic style, complete with ornate antiques and fine furnishings, whilst some offer a more modern look with vibrant colours and bolder prints. Whatever the style however, each room comes with the same standard of luxury including marble bathrooms, an enormous bed, and views over Rome’s burnt orange rooftops. Each room comes equipped with a “handy” smartphone, a recent addition to the hotel’s amenities which not provides guests with local and international calls but also free internet access, perfect for when you’re out sightseeing.

For those who really want to splurge the hotel also offers a selection of extravagant suites. Separate living quarters, mini kitchens, giant bathtubs, and even a private sauna in the bathroom, like Italy itself the Hotel d’Inghilterra knows how to live indulgently.

Although the Hotel D’Inghilterra doesn’t offer a spa, there is so much to do in Rome that the chances are you’ll be too busy exploring to miss it. However, the hotel does offer other ways to relax after a long day sightseeing. Café Romano and its terrace make a fashionable spot for lunch, especially if you’re enjoying a day of shopping at the nearby designer boutiques, or to sit and enjoy an Aperol Spritz as the sun goes down. Like the rest of the hotel the British-inspired Bond Bar will take you back in time with it’s elegant surroundings, as will the hotel’s reading room and living room, where you can lounge with a paper or drink at the bar, feeling like a modern-day Hemingway. Or you could just head back to your luxurious suite of course, relax in its opulent surroundings, and feel like a modern-day aristocrat.
