The London EDITION

The London EDITION - Berner's Tavern - Please credit Nikolas KoenigStyleNest recently checked into The London EDITION, a chic city hotel which perfectly captures that luxe home-from-home feel.

Situated just off Oxford Street, The London EDITION is a boutique five star hotel. Found near to Soho, the stylish Fitzrovia travel destination is one of four EDITION hotels across the world. With multi-lingual staff, executive butler services available, customised banquet menus and more, The London EDITION is completely geared to meet every guest’s needs.

Stepping into reception, we were met with the warmest of welcomes as we took in the unique hotel’s stunning décor. Simple yet extremely stylish, vibrant yet subtle, the hotel features wood panelling, statement art and classic design. Initially you walk through the Lobby Bar, a chilled environment complete with pool table, coffee tables and sumptuous sofas. My favourite feature within the Lobby Bar is a stainless steel orb designed by Ingo Maurer. Just one of the key pieces lighting up the hotel, it mirrors the classic yet contemporary look throughout.

Onwards to our room, we found a chilled cocktail waiting for us in the mini bar, freshly made that morning. Details such as this are what the hotel is all about, little touches which highlight each individual guest’s importance. Our room was a Guest Room, one of 3 types available. The others are a Superior Room and Deluxe Room. You can also stay in one of the stunning suites, including the Loft, Loft Suite and Penthouse. Should the Penthouse tempt you, there is a separate living and dining area, walk-in wardrobe, pantry and three large outdoor terraces. Talk about a stylish and superior city break.

Providing a yacht-like feel, our room was decked out with oak floors and walnut panelling. I particularly liked the thick faux fur throw strategically placed on the bottom of the bed- perfect for snuggling up in. A flat screen on the wall, beautiful flowers, George Smith lounge chair and a King sized bed completed the room. In addition, a picture of Hendrik Kerstens is framed on the wall, adorned with gold-leaf baroque detail. Being a boiling hot day, I went straight for the heavenly rainforest shower, admiring the bathroom’s custom-made Le Labo design.

Later we took a table at Punch Room, The London EDITION’s secret weapon. Soul music playing in the background, Punch Room is a seductively lit haven for drinks and down time. A reservation only bar, it’s a panelled paradise for hiding out in. The interior inspired by old fashioned manor house libraries, Punch Room takes you away from the city noise and creates its own hustle and bustle. Guided by genuinely lovely and extremely knowledgeable bar staff, we chose a punch called ‘57 Shades of Grey’. Despite the topical title, we actually picked this drink for its whiskey content, a distinctive blend of Earl Grey tea and Talisker 57 Whiskey made and poured into a punch bowl, before being ladled into glasses. A completely unique experience, I’d love to return and explore more of the Grey Goose and Bacardi infused punch options. You can also sample several live music sessions in Punch Room, something which we would definitely recommend after our own memorable visit.

After a cosy night’s sleep in our heavenly room, we woke up to breakfast in Berners Tavern, the hotel’s restaurant. Headed up by Michelin –starred Executive Chef Jason Atherton, this is an all day dining destination offering exquisite seasonal British dishes. Seated in Berners Tavern, we took in the surroundings, which include classic and contemporary art, breathtaking chandeliers originally from New York’s Grand Central Station, period detail high ceilings and a zinc topped bar. Every single feature is thought out, making a viewing of the room almost as delicious as the food. Back to breakfast and we ordered Curly Kale, Apple, Cucumber and Lime Juice to start, plus coffee of course. The Mr indulged in Hazelnut Waffles, Berries and Cream, which would have induced a serious case of food envy had it not been for my own Avocado on Toast with a Poached Egg. A breakfast menu that could easily have prompted us to sit there all day, I was also tempted by the Brioche French Toast, Smoked Streaky Bacon and Maple Syrup. Lip-smacking, completely indulgent and divine dishes, it was tricky to tear ourselves away from Berners Tavern and their mouth-watering menu.

Almost time to leave The London EDITION, there was still chance to take five in the Lobby Bar. Reclining on the soft sofas, I dipped into coffee table books such as Hollywood in the 30s, as my other half read the Sunday papers.

Whilst we made the most of a Mr and Mrs get away, The London EDITION is also a place to take your little ones. Family Style at The London EDITION is a package which covers accommodation in a spacious Loft or Loft Suite, a complimentary connecting room and Big Kid, Little Kid treats including breakfast for two, a kid’s city guide, movie night and a London-inspired in-room tent.

With several additional hotels opening globally soon, future EDITION hotspots will also include Bangkok, Times Square and Reykjavik. More than enough reason to revisit another idyllic EDITION hotel soon…
