Pure Salt, Mallorca

With Mallorca the hottest new destination thanks to the overwhelming popularity of Love Island this summer (flight searches were said to have increased by 60% during the final according to kiwi.com), the island is having quite the renaissance. What’s pleasantly surprising is that this surge in popularity is not just with the younger crowd; instead, Mallorca is taking on Ibiza with its own sophisticated vibe, stunning architecture and elegant range of adult-only hotels from boutique hotel brand Pure Salt.

Sleep

Mallorca’s luxury hotel market has two adult-only offerings from the Pure Salt brand, both of which offer a different but indulgent experience.

Overlooking the spectacular Philippe Starck designed marina, Pure Salt’s statuesque Port Adriano property is set atop an imposing cliff in the exclusive Calvià region, less than half an hour drive from the capital. Whichever way you turn you’ll be awed by arguably one of the finest hotel views you’re likely to see on the Med, thanks to its unique standpoint. Even more impressive is that half of the 62 gorgeously presented rooms boast an impeccable view, which you can enjoy from the comfort of your balcony, private Jacuzzi or swim-up pool. Fancy taking a dip somewhere a bit more sociable? Look no further than the stunning infinity pool overlooking the marina, and enjoy a chilled glass of rosé with views over Playa El Toro.

Even closer to the airport is Pure Salt Garonda, the brand’s original property. A larger hotel with just under 120 rooms, it’s situated right on the strip, meaning sea-facing rooms are met with endless blues as far as the eye can see. The beach is, quite literally, right across the road and stretches as far as the eye can see – perfect for a dip at any time of day. As with its sister property, rooms are well appointed, generously sized and well thought out, and beds are marshmallow soft.

Eat

If, like us, breakfast is your favourite meal of the day, you won’t be disappointed at either Pure Salt Port Adriano or Pure Salt Garonda, though the latter just has the edge. The sheer volume of options is the only reason you should set your alarm early; you might need a few hours to feast your way through the pastries, cereals, fresh fruits, eggs and our favourite – Iberico ham on tomato-rubbed cristal bread. The range of fresh juices are particularly noteworthy – make sure to enjoy the watermelon juice for a healthy but delicious pick me up.

Each hotel boasts several impressive restaurants; Pure Salt Garonda’s signature restaurant is perfectly positioned on the Playa de Palma sea front, and serves delectable haute cuisine ideal for a special occasion or romantic first meal of the trip without the kids. Also noteworthy is the hotel’s more informal tapas offering, Mikel & Pintxo, which offers reasonably priced authentic tapas bites – don’t miss the gorgeous octopus timbale.

Pure Salt Port Adriano’s offerings are equally impressive; the hotel’s Oyster Bar serves more tapas because, let’s face it, you’re simply not doing a Spanish holiday properly unless you’re eating your weight in tapas every day. We loved the indulgently rich pan fried goat cheese with truffles, honey and nuts, but the crispy asparagus with a romescu sauce was also a must-try, too. For a more gastronomic experience, Restaurante Adriano is something really special. Head chef Diego takes inspiration from his various global postings throughout his career, blending authentic Spanish ingredients with exciting flavours and techniques from around the world. Stunningly presented, each dish is a masterpiece – we’re still dreaming of the Glazed Iberian pork with oyster, coconut and lime sauce!

Relax

Mallorca surprises and delights with its impressive variety of luxury activities. We whiled away one of our most memorable summer days at Bodega Biniagual Mallorca, an eye-wateringly beautiful estate and winery that must be the island’s best kept secret. Organised directly through the hotel (the charming Heri on the concierge team has sourced some of the most exclusive experiences in Mallorca), you’ll spend an afternoon in paradise, surrounded by stunning flora, exploring the extensive grounds, admiring the chapel, tasting delicious wine and enjoying a selection of quintessential Spanish dishes to pair with it.

After something a bit more strenuous? There’s a scenic coastal cycle path that attracts hosts of biking enthusiasts – we recommend hiring an e-bike so you can take it at your own speed and gradient. If water-based activities are what you’re after, spend a morning putting your stomach muscles through their paces paddle boarding in Port Adriano with Mar Balear. Or, if you’re keen on something more relaxing but still fancy being on the water, we cannot recommend a sunset boat tour with Oasis Catamaran enough; there’s nothing more luxurious than enjoying a glass of cava (or two) watching the sun go down over the ocean.

For those who want to relax and unwind, Pure Salt’s Geronda’s O Spa has a generous treatment menu that includes the Ritual Diamond Rose Experience and Masaje Ona Spa Signature. While you’re being pampered and spoilt rotten, your other half can head to sister property Pure Salt Port Adriano for a session on the golfing range simulator, where they can have one-on-one lessons with a professional golfer.

At just over a two-hour flight from the UK, there’s no excuse not to hop over to Mallorca and indulge. We guarantee it will become your favourite new indulgent getaway, whichever Pure Salt hotel you stay in.
