Miraggio Thermal Spa Resort Review

We recently flew out to Greece, taking a break at the simply stunning five-star Miraggio Thermal Spa Resort and immersing ourselves in the delights of this divine luxury destination.

Landing at Thessaloniki airport, we were met with a warm welcome and transported to the resort, which comprised an hour and a bit journey exploring the Greek surroundings. Passing through Halkidiki, this is the nearest large town that you could venture to should you wish for a day trip. However, we stayed put throughout the three night stay, thoroughly enjoying our wellbeing weekend and blissful Miraggio bubble.

Prepare to gasp in delight and amazement as you pull up to the resort, a sweeping area protected by security gates. Driving down the slope- which hosts 330 acres and covers tennis courts and hills ideal for hiking, our excitement really started to kick in.

Just before you get to the main entrance, you’ll see Kids Planet, a fun hub of activity for children from 4 months to 12 years old. Completely family-friendly, there are also dedicated kids dining options within the main restaurant and at breakfast time, highlighted by bright letters. The entire team are attentive and absolutely lovely, and I noticed families looking relaxed, at ease and with very happy kids. Babysitting is available on request too.

As we stepped into the main reception area, champagne and a cooling cloth were given to us. The ideal start to our trip, it was an early indication of just how thoughtful Miraggio team members are. This opening part of the resort is an extra large atrium, including two reception areas, the Mirage Lobby Bar, plus stylish lounges. Straight ahead as you are walking into the main opening, you immediately notice doors at the end of the atrium, to an outside bar and completely glorious view of the staggered floors below and multiple pools.

After a guided tour and many excited squeals, we were led to our room and found the resort had kindly upgraded us to a junior suite, complete with private pool. Basically, you drink up blue tones of the dazzling sea beyond and Greek peninsulas in the distance. The resort is on the Kassandra peninsula, the third in a trio.

Sleek and sophisticated décor, both in our suite and throughout the resort, is the central chic theme. Think marble floors, bronze features and an Instagrammable plant wall. We had a Nespresso machine, free bottled water and little Greek nougat treats once our beds were turned down at night.

I probably can’t even put into words the tranquillity our suite and the entire resort brought us. There are 300 rooms and suites, 48 of which with their own pool. Peaceful outlooks consist of either an Aegean Sea or garden view.

In addition to several outdoor pools, the seafront resort hosts a private marina. With seafood restaurant Toroneo directly opposite, you can sit outside and soak up the atmosphere whilst perusing VIP boats. Once we had unpacked and settled into our stunning suite, we pottered down the steps, admiring the Myrthia Thermal Spa and gym, Sommelier’s 8 Wine Bar, plus Italian and main restaurants. On the ground floor, a shopping arcade and ice cream parlour sit behind a serene waterfall, guiding you down to a large pool with sun loungers, separate kids’ pool and VIP adult pool.

Cocktail and snacks in hand from the Oasis Pool Bar, I lay under palm trees by the adult pool and took in the October sun. Still warm, we experienced comfortable temperatures of about 20-24 degrees Celsius. The resort closes at the end of October until the beginning of May, meaning it is currently open for summery months.

After a sorbet, relax and dip in the sea, it was time to get ready for dinner. We had earlier booked a table at Portofino, the resort’s Italian restaurant. Sitting outside and admiring the view, we enjoyed a bottle of wine and three delicious courses. The service was amazing, and I struck up conversation with the team, including a lady called Eleni, on both this night and our last, when she offered us a Greek drink as her parting gift. Light fluffy pizzas and scrummy plates were the order of the day, leaving us content with full tummies and ready for a good night’s sleep.

Waking up the next morning, refreshed and raring to go, we drew the curtains and returned to our idyllic view. Quietly enjoying a coffee, we then wandered down to breakfast at the Kritamo restaurant. A buffet selection of cooked food, pastries, cereal, fresh fruit and even Prosecco one morning, there was more than enough to choose from. I was drawn to the gluten and dairy free area, complete with gluten free bread and almond milk, while my husband tucked into pastries, plus a cooked bacon and eggs breakfast. Accompanied by fresh juice and with the option to return for more, breakfast was certainly an appetizing high point of our stay.

Shortly after, I caught up with the resort’s very informative head of marketing Vivi, finding out more about the Miraggio journey since opening last year. Then settling down for a decent slice of beachside sunbathing, my husband took a dip in the sea while I devoured a book. The waves lapped at the shore, while others did the same as us. Fancying another cocktail and presuming it was 5 o’clock somewhere, I visited the Oasis Beach Bar. Torn between a couple on the menu, the bartender then offered to make me my own. He asked if I’d like sweet or sour, and which flavours I fancied, before mixing up the perfect drink. Talk about seamless tailored service.

Lunch at Oasis Pool Restaurant followed, where we plumped for chips and a club sandwich, plus frappe. A brasserie that serves meals until the pool closes at 7pm, it is a laidback affair with fresh food and an unbeatable view.

With the clouds threatening rain, we decided on the Myrthia Thermal Spa. Every guest is given one complimentary pass for the spa, and for us, this meant a cosy afternoon where I even had a nap before my facial. Miraggio really offers you a chance to get off the treadmill of life, reflect and invest in your wellbeing. The resort is so much more than a simple hotel and spa, it is a lifestyle destination prepared to meet your every wellness need.

Nutritionist Amanda Hamilton has created wellbeing menus throughout the resort, and these feature at breakfast as well as in the Myrthia Health Bar. I also spotted a copy of her latest book, while relaxing in the spa lounge.

The spa spans across four thermal pools with geothermal water which is different temperatures; a large Thalasso pool with seawater; steam room and Finnish sauna; two sensory showers and herbal sauna; plunge pool you can walk across; wellness spa area; VIP treatment rooms and suites; and a tepidarium fitness and motion zone. The fitness zone includes high tech cardio vascular and modular resistance machines, as well as separate training rooms. After mentioning all of the above, I can’t miss out Xanthi Hair Salon and Naily’s Hand & Foot Care, both situated beside the spa reception. There is literally every health, fitness and beauty facility you could require in the holistic Myrthia spa.

Talking of which, after enjoying each and every element of the spa, I was guided upstairs to a treatment room. My skilled therapist gave me an Algoane Hydrating Traveller facial. Soothing, gentle and nourishing, my skin was treated to several different products all designed to boost and tone post-travel. I left the spa vitalised and radiant, those health and beauty batteries completely recharged. Other treatments include day packages, massages, anniversary celebration deals, a kids’ spa collection, hydro baths, a Greek spa menu and much more.

Deciding to try another restaurant for dinner, we sampled Kritamo’s buffet Mexican evening. Packed full of scrummy choices, top of our list were the burritos, tacos, guacamole and absolutely amazing desserts including little mousses with mini chocolate bars balanced on top.

After another relaxing few hours on Sunday and more delish Portofino plates, we woke up to greet our final day, feeling extremely sad to leave. Following the journey home, we have definitely vowed to return. And for now, excuse me, while I don’t stop talking about what a wonderful destination Miraggio Thermal Spa Resort is. Have I mentioned that it is pure bliss for couples, families and friends alike?
