Hilton York

HiltonStyleNest recently travelled to Hilton York, enjoying a lovely family-friendly city break.

Positioned in a brilliant, central location, we found valet parking available as we pulled up to the hotel. A very handy option, it meant there was no need to worry about the car during our inner city stay. Just a 5 minute walk from the shops, cathedral, restaurants and various cultural hotspots, Hilton York could not be in a better position. Also offering a picturesque view onto Clifford’s Tower, the hotel is perfectly placed inside the picturesque city walls.

Receiving a warm welcome upon arrival, the kids were thrilled to find a club basket including Yorkie bars, mineral water and jelly sweets in our room. A mini bottle of red definitely went down well with us adults too. Given the Double Hilton Suite to stay in, we found ourselves in two adjoining rooms plus an en suite. With lots of space to relax, there was also a table and chairs to sit down at. Smart décor and a TV in each section was the order of the day, with my other half happy to be able to watch the rugby in peace. A perfect space for a family of four, we had enough room for the kids’ toys and our own suitcases without feeling at all cramped.

After a meander round the cobbled streets of historic York, we returned to the hotel for dinner at Tower’s Restaurant. A smart and airy environment, the restaurant is attached to the adjacent Tower’s Lounge and Bar. Having booked an early sitting due to weary little ones, staff could not have been more accommodating.

The kids were both given colouring sheets and service was swift and efficient. Enjoying 3 delicious courses, to start we tucked into a warm sweet potato salad with Halloumi Cheese, tomatoes, rocket and caramelised pecan nuts. As a gluten-free diner, I was particularly pleased to see their handily marked menu, marking out the options I could eat. Tucking into sirloin steak for our mains, I chose the red wine jus while the Mr picked peppercorn sauce. Meanwhile, our little ones were enjoying chicken nuggets and chips.

When the children began to seriously wilt and the lure of Strictly became too strong, we asked to take our dessert back to the room. Devouring our sticky toffee pudding in pjs as the kids ate their ice-cream, this was the perfect family end to our evening.

Waking up after a solid night’s sleep in very comfy beds, we headed down to breakfast. Also held in Tower’s Restaurant, there was a buffet of hot and cold breakfast options including; eggs, beans, bacon, pastries, toast, fruit, cereals and even Nutella muffins. Suitably stuffed and ready for another day in gorgeous York, we left the Hilton happy and eager to return to another of their hotels soon.
