PLENISH by Kara Rosen Top Tips

Plenish TipsStyleNest have teamed up with PLENISH founder Kara Rosen to bring you some top health and wellbeing tips.

Kara’s first book PLENISH: Juices to Boost, Cleanse and Heal launched on 5th January, a comprehensive guide to nourishing your body through juicing. Looking to her Little Green Book of Experts, Kara lists advice from top nutrition and wellness advisors. In addition, the book includes fifty tasty juice recipes and outlines different unique cleanse programmes.

Using the principles of PLENISH, Kara brings StyleNesters simple ways to change diet and lifestyle in 2015.

Tip 1. Be grateful

It’s very easy to start the year beating yourself up for overindulgence or being sedentary over the holiday period. Be grateful you’ve had the opportunity to indulge and use that same energy you would once take to reprimand yourself to set some goals of what you want to achieve in the next few months. Your overall health is tightly related to mind and body, so be kind to yourself.

Tip 2. Buy a new water bottle

I love my clear bottle with a fruit infuser. Make sure you are drinking lots of water all day long. Staying hydrated in winter will help keep your energy levels up, cravings down, and keep your skin in top condition, especially when it’s dealing with the ‘elements’ of artificial heat and cold weather outside. If you add some lemon or lime, this will deliver some extra Vitamin C and antibacterial properties to keep your immunity at full blast.

Tip 3. Drop labels and commit to eating more plants in 2015

Are you vegan, paleo, pescatarian? Stop worrying about which foods you are cutting out, and focus on all of the fresh, crunchy plant-based foods you are getting into your diet. Plan ahead to make sure you are having heaps of fresh vegetables (lots of greens) in your diet at least 2 meals per day. Not soggy, overcooked stuff, but veggies that still look and taste vibrant. Think carrot sticks as a side to lunch or a salad starring not only lettuce, but also raw or lightly steamed broccoli, green beans, bell peppers, shredded kale.

 Tip 4. Start juicing

Incorporate a cold pressed juice, particularly vegetable based ones like the PLENISH Mind Body Green or Sweet Sexy Green (or make them at home! We have over 50 juicing and plant based recipes in our new book, PLENISH: Juices to boost cleanse and heal).  Cold pressed juices and the juicing lifestyle have become so popular because you can cram nearly 2kg of vegetables into one glass – These foods nourish your cells at the deepest levels, contain all of the vitamins and minerals your body needs, help prevent disease with their alkalinity and antioxidant rich nature, help flush the body of waste and taste delicious to boot.

 Tip 5. Try a cleanse

Start the year as you wish to continue. The New Year is a great time to treat your body as if it were a Rolls Royce with your own MOT. By cutting out any inflammatory foods and stimulants like dairy, caffeine, alcohol, processed foods and animal proteins, you give your digestive system a ‘rest’, allowing it to release toxins, recover from inflammation and shed excess weight you’ve been carrying around. At the same time, you will be flooding your system with nutrient-dense, alkaline and detoxifying vegetables and fruits in the form of cold pressed juice! As you come out of your cleanse it’s very common to feel as though your taste buds have been reset. You may be surprised that the indulgences you have craved in the past are quite different than before, which creates an ideal first step in designing your healthy eating plan for 2015.
