This unique event is strictly female. The concept sounds simple at first; power walk your way through a marathon, or half marathon but the catch is that all participants must wear a decorated bra in order to raise awareness for breast cancer. Each year, the theme varies, with this year’s theme being space- so think aliens, astronauts and everything in between. As well as this, the MoonWalk takes place at night, adding an extra level of fun to this unique event.
Set yourself the ultimate goal and run a marathon for charity. The London marathon is one of the most renowned of its kind and regularly sees over 20,000 participants taking part each year. This is a wonderful way to build your stamina, as you will be training months before the event. Likewise, each participant is set a target to raise money for charity, so you are also benefiting a worthy cause with your efforts.
The BUPA Great Run will be taking place at various locations across the country this year, from Newcastle down to Portsmouth and everywhere in between. All runners will be raising money for selected charities and patrons and the charities will be there every step of the way to provide you with online support, comprehensive training, nutrition and kit advice as well as fund-raising ideas.
Set yourself an exhilarating challenge and impress your friends by climbing the highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales, Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowden. Each participant will be raising funds for Action Medical Research. The aim is to complete the three peaks in 24 hours. There are also awards on offer for fastest team to complete the challenge, which is sure to spur you on even further. This is an extremely challenging and rewarding event that is definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity.
Cycletta is the perfect challenge for any cycle enthuses. It is a strictly ladies-only event which takes place at locations all across the country. You will be riding approximately 40km along different routes, depending on the location. This is a great one to do with your friends, as cyclists of the same ability are able to begin the event together.
Nike’s Run To The Beat is one of the coolest fitness events we have encountered. Merging fitness and music, it is a half-marathon with an emphasis firmly on the beats. Previous years have seen Tinie Tempah, Calvin Harris and Annie Mac welcome the runners home, so this is a great event for those wanting a whole lot of fun injected into their race.
Race For Life is the largest women-only fundraising event in the UK. Year after year it brings together thousands of women helping to beat cancer. Not only is this a wonderful cause, but the run itself is perfect for beginners, or those who aren’t quite up to a hardcore marathon as the runs are either 5 or 10km. Runners are encouraged to wear the name of someone they are running in aid of on their bibs, adding a personal touch to each runner’s race.
Put your stamina to the test by partaking in a women’s only triathlon in 2013, at the Olympic rowing venue, Eton Dorney. The event is designed for women of any ability, from a novice, to the more professional and all will compete in a friendly, fun and non-intimidating environment. Triathlons can be competed as an individual, or in a team, which is a great way of motivating yourself with others around you. This is a guaranteed fun day out.
Embrace the waters of the great outdoors and enter the Great Swim, taking place across the country from June this year. Over 20,000 participants took part in last year’s event and you will be able to choose from four distances including 1/2 mile, one mile, two miles and 5K. Whether you want to take part simply for the challenge, to get fit or to raise money for charity, all you need to do is don that swimsuit and get training.
