5 Quick Tips To Get You Over Your Post-Holiday Blues

Joshua TuckerGetting over the holiday blues is hard but at Slice Urban Fitness, we want the sun to shine every day.  We’ve teamed up with Slice Studios Urban Fitness Manager, Pamela Lai to give you 5 top tips on how to keep that holiday glow:

1. Feeling good is mostly psychological.

It is really important to smile at yourself every morning, be kind and reward yourself for whatever you think you’ve done well.  It could be remembering to workout a little on holiday, not eating the last chocolate in the box or indeed being responsible and returning to work at all when the beach bum lifestyle looked so tempting!

2. Give your body an endorphin rush.

The best way of doing this is to work up a sweat and get your core moving again.  Your body will be reluctant and your brain will be trying to talk you out of it, so before you go away write down on a piece of paper how you feel after an exercise class.  Put it in a drawer and when you come back, read it again for motivation.

3. Work on a strong core

Once you’ve got over the mental hurdle of working out again, choose workouts that will tone your core to give you back some of the strength you lost whilst enjoying the local food and drink.  A strong core will make it easier to do other exercises like cardio and get you fitter faster.

4. Be mindful of what you eat.

Start to be mindful of what you eat and cut out little things each day.  Don’t do it all in one go as it will be a huge let down and you want to keep the holiday feeling going.  Try one less spoonful of dessert on day 1 and take it from there.

5. Finally watch your alcohol intake.  Alcohol acts as a depressant and you need to feel great.  Try and cut down by half in the first week you return and then half again in the second week.
