StyleNest chat to Nathalie Schyllert, Director of Operations and Director of Bodywear, Bodyism’s new clothing range, and talk fitness, family and food.

Before joining the team at Bodyism, you had a successful career as a ballerina and top fitness model, performing with the Royal Ballet and modelling for big names such as Stella McCartney Adidas, Elle, Vogue and Reebok. What prompted you to pursue a career in fitness?

I have always been interested in training, nutrition and helping others to become healthy. It was a dream come true when I started working for Bodyism. I could now combine all of my favourite interests as a part of my career.

You´re now one of the most sought after fitness specialists in Europe. How did you arrive to be where you are today?

James Duigan (the founder of Bodyism) has been the perfect mentor. He helped me pick the best courses to become a top personal trainer. The clients at Bodyism are really inspiring and they expect the best which means I wanted to be the best.

What is a typical day for you at Bodyism?

I start my day with an early Skype meeting with James in Australia. Then I spend the morning at the  gym training a couple of clients. At lunch time I am at the office to sort out orders for our clothing range or develop new ideas. The afternoons I often spend in meetings with Net a Porter, The Detox Kitchen or The Communications Store for example. The evenings I would spend answering emails I haven’t had time to answer during the day. And between that I spend time with my son Oliver

What can readers expect from a Bodyism workout?

They will feel stronger, slimmer and happier after a Bodyism workout. We include a lot of postural exercises and we do mostly body weight exercises. If you have done well we serve you super delicious post workout Bodyism shake

What advice would you give someone new to exercise, to encourage them to stick with it, and also how to exercise safely?

Listen to your body and don’t overdo it. Start with 2 times a week and slowly increase it to 4 times a week after a month or so.

And how can those who are already exercise fans avoid boredom and stay motivated, and keep seeing results?

Try to combine some different exercise styles, don’t only go to the gym. Also do yoga, pilates, swimming, biking, dancing etc

What is your own exercise regime?

It is sometimes tough to fit in training myself so I always try to walk to and from work. I also train or do yoga with a junior trainer at Bodyism 3 times a week.

Bodyism´s Clean & Lean philosophy and diet is followed by many of the world´s most beautiful bodies. What is a typical ´Clean & Lean´ day for you? Any favourite recipes you can share with us?

Here is a typical food day for me

Breakfast: Quinoa porridge mad with unsweetened almond milk. Topped with sunflower seeds and blueberries

Snack- Green juice made with Celery, carrot, lemon and ginger. Add beauty food

Lunch: Salmon and salad

Snack: Nuts

Dinner: Chicken served with sweet potatoes and spinach

The Clean & Lean diet allows one treat a week. What´s your favourite indulgence?

A healthy chocolate mousse:

1 banana

1/2 avocado

2 tbs cacao

1 tbs coconut oil

1 tbs honey

Mix it all in a Vitamix or blender and put in the fridge before you serve

Often people´s diets slip due to lack of time. What tips can you give us to stay Clean & Lean during even the busiest and most stressful days?

There is a lot of confusion out there about diet and nutrition. What are your top tips for following a nutritious diet? Any secret ingredients or products that will help achieve results?

Make sure you include variety in your diet and don’t eat the same food all the time. Even if they are healthy ingredients it is not good for the body to get the same food every day.
My two favourite healthy ingredients are

Avocado- It does wonders to your health also gives you better skin and hair quality. Bodyism’s Serenity- It will help you sleep and that will help you to burn fat

Did you change anything about your diet or fitness regime whilst pregnant? What advice would you give to mothers-to-be to stay in optimum health during pregnancy?

I ate a little more carbs while I was pregnant and when I was breast feeding but I stayed Clean & Lean. I don’t think you should be too strict with your diet when you’re pregnant, the most important thing is to get a healthy baby and eat food that has high nutritional value.

And what about after pregnancy? How can new mums shift excess baby weight healthily? 

While breastfeeding you have to eat a little bit more to make sure you produce enough milk. But you can pick healthy alternatives. Instead of going to McDonalds you can eat more healthy carbs such as sweet potatoes or make fibre rich homemade muffins.

I tried to walk with Oliver when he had his naps a couple of times a day. That really helped me to lose my baby weight.

You are from Sweden but now live in London. What are you favourite things to do and see in the city?

I’ve lived here for 15 years now and it feels like home. I love Hyde Park, I walk there every day and the Saatchi gallery always has great exhibitions on

When you are not working out in Bodyism´s stylish clothing range, who are your favourite designers to wear?

My favourite designers are Emilia Wickstead for dresses and Charlotte Olympia for shoes.

How do you like to unwind and relax?

I love to go to Neville’s salon to relax. They do the best massages (with Tanya) blow dries (with Jack) and the manis and pedis are great too.
