A British Burberry Christmas Tree for Claridge’s

Claridge's Tree sketch 2015Claridge’s, London’s legendary Mayfair hotel, has announced that this year its celebrated Christmas tree will be designed by the hotel’s long term friend and Burberry Chief Creative, Christopher Bailey.

This tree will mark the first time that Claridge’s will have a British designed Christmas Tree. The tree is set to be unveiled on the 16th November.

Contrasting with the art deco design of the hotel the Christmas Tree will be innovative and modern, exploring the concept of light and shadow, with reflections of the tree being visible from all angles of the lobby. Drawing inspiration from Burberry’s longstanding heritage of providing protection against the elements, the Burberry Christmas Tree will comprise of over 100 umbrellas, each finished in bespoke gold and silver metallic fabric. The lights around the tree will be motion censored, picking up the movement of guests walking by, sending thousands of twinkling lights into life to create a spectacle befitting the joyous tie of year. Christopher Bailey said his inspiration was the playfulness of the season, he wanted the tree to reflect both the ‘festive magic’ of Christmas as well as ‘the English weather’.

This is the sixth year that Claridge’s has invited an esteemed guest to reinterpret the tree in their own distinctive style. The general manager of Claridges, Thomas Kochs, has expressed his excitement and ‘pride’ that this years tree will be of a British design.

Claridge’s and Burberry’s longstanding relationship has been enjoyed by guests of the hotel for years, most famously with the offering go Heritage Trench Coats in all of the hotel’s suites. This festive season, ‘Burberry Bellboys’ will also be on hand to help guests with their Christmas wish lists
