Sisterly Shopping Love

Theo pointed at the sky and shouted “bird-a” on Friday. Rather bizarrely mirroring Lyla’s first (and feathered) word of “duck”, it was such a lovely start to the weekend. I was still in a happy whirl later that morning when Theo walked across the lounge, fiercely clutching a pot of pavement chalks. Not thinking that he’d be able to prise the lid off I carried on with my coffee. This was until the little man charged over, purple chalk in hand. I tentatively followed Theo back to the crime-scene, discovering his artwork- our now rainbow effect cream rug. Such colourful chaos occurred just hours after I’d discovered Lyla had managed to buy a book from Chris’s wish-list on Amazon. Two talented tots and one stressed-out mother…

Someone who faces a far more serious daily struggle is my sister Sally; she has spent the last two years battling the hugely debilitating illness, M.E. Sal came to stay on Saturday amid the amazing news that she has now almost completely conquered it. Obviously, this called for a celebratory lunch and lots of dancing with Lyla to the ‘uh-oh song’, aka Beyonce’s ‘Single Ladies’.

One thing that is always apparent when Sally and I get together is our mutual love of shopping. As hitting the shops can be somewhat tricky with the children in tow, this time we got our fashion fix from my new discovery- Shopcade.

Shopcade is a form of social media that is similar to Twitter in that you acquire followers, and much like Pinterest because you pin products. What appeals to me most though is the ability to earn rewards whilst sorting your Jimmy Choo from your Cath Kidston. I’ve found it to be dangerously addictive and you can even categorise your feed, especially if like me you are a lists fiend.

To date I’ve gone rather Pied a Terre mad with my ‘home sweet home’ segment and have my eye on some sparkly Toms for the ‘little ones’ category. With Aunty and Mummy at the helm the children benefitted most from our spree; Lyla has so far acquired a Not on the High Street princess tent and a Trunki.

While we were on there I also coined a ‘treats’ section, which is rather predictably full of chocolate, but you could personalise anything at all. I think next time Sal visits we’ll set up a section dedicated to vintage Chanel handbags and designer shoes, purely in case Lyla wants to order anything else of course…
