Tapas Revolution Newcastle

Brand new to the city of Newcastle, is Tapas Revolution.

Perfectly situated in the Eldon Square complex, Tapas Revolution is central for shopping and other bars and restaurants too. We stopped by during a midweek lunch break, and the atmosphere was almost as buzzing as it is on a weekend. Stepping into Tapas Revolution Newcastle, you immediately notice the stunning Spanish décor and vibrant vibes. The floor is tiled with stunning ornate features, walls are decorated in style and the colours entice you into enjoying some Spanish sunshine.

Created by Spanish TV Chef Omar Allibhoy, Omar finds himself on a mission to introduce authentic tapas to the UK. Tapas Revolution Newcastle is the sixth restaurant opened by Omar and his team, spreading their contemporary tapas bar concept. Madrid-born Omar has cooked for a wide array of celebrities, as well as covering royal dinners.

Omar explains: “There’s a great restaurant and bar scene in Newcastle and I can’t wait to get involved in the buzz happening here and bring a little Spanish twist to the city. Tapas Revolution in Eldon Square is my version of the lively and bustling tapas bars in Madrid, Barcelona and Seville.”

After a warm and inviting welcome, we started our meal with a soft drink each, the delicious Limonada Casera. This homemade lemonade has a touch of saffron too and was juicy and sweet. Other drinks options include their amazing cocktail menu, plus sangria or Spanish gin and tonic. The team were friendly and helpful throughout, with prompt service, and knowledgeable about the food and drinks presented.

Deciding to share several plates of tapas, these included; crispy fried aubergine with spiced honey and thyme dressing, fried sweet green peppers, tiger prawns with garlic and chilli oil, crisp pork belly with a sweet and spicy sauce and deep fried squid. In keeping with a genuine tapas experience, dished were sent to the table as they were ready, not all at once. I loved this touch, as it meant we could sample food at our own pace and enjoy relaxed dining with drinks.

The food was absolutely amazing, completely more-ish and packed full of fantastic flavours. Tapas Revolution also offers a gluten-free menu, for those with specific dietary requirements. There are larger plates to share, joining paella as another menu pick. Freshly-made churros are part of the dessert delights, although we were too full to sample them. Definitely an excellent excuse to return soon…
