Sunday Brunch at New Street Grill

New Street Grill Window ViewStyleNest headed to London’s Bishopsgate, to try out the new Sunday brunch menu at New Street Grill and Old Bengal Bar.

From the moment we walked into the restaurant, we were waited on hand and foot. Coats were whisked away behind a thick mass of curtains; we were led through the dark and decadent Old Bengal Bar, and into the restaurant’s’ main dining room – all hard oak tables and lavish floral arrangements.

It’s 12noon on a Sunday, but the atmosphere feels more like a Friday night. Groups of women dressed to the nines, prosecco practically on tap and a real ‘good-time’ vibe fills the air.

We sit down to Bloody Marys, served up ice cold with lots of sharp tabasco – sure to cure even the most stubborn of fuzzy heads. If you’re partial to a Bloody Mary, New Street Grill is the place to come on a Sunday. You can add an extra £10 per person onto you brunch menu and they’ll top you up throughout the meal. Prosecco is also on offer, which by the looks of things, was the Sunday drink of choice.

The menu is vast and varied, yet manages to stay within the realms of ‘brunch’, so expect posh toasties, eggs with a twist and of course, the classic fry-up.

ma and cheese dishTo start, we sampled the kedgeree scotch egg – a great brunch style take on the classic snack. The smoked fish complimented the creamy egg yolk – which was glistening and cooked to perfection. The starter menu also has lighter options, such as a fresh fruit plate or granola, berry compote and yoghurt if you’re being good.

For the main, we had a tradition full English – Gloucester old spot pork sausages, smoked bacon, black pudding and eggs how you like. A fry-up is nothing new, but the quality of the produce was second to none.

But New Street Grill’s star dish has to be the lobster macaroni. Great chunks of fresh lobster hidden beneath rich cheesy mac ‘n’ cheese and topped with a crumbed, crunchy top. We’d go back just for this.

If you can fit in a third course, the dessert menu boasts some classic dishes such as jam roly poly with English custard, or bread, butter and banana pudding.

Whether it’s a birthday lunch, a Mother’s Day treat or just another Sunday, New Street Grill is without a doubt our new favourite weekend hangout. The perfect way to finish off the weekend.

Sunday Brunch at New Street Grill and Old Bengal Bar is priced at £20 for 2 courses or £25 for 3 courses. Add unlimited prosecco or Bloody Marys for an additional £10 per person.
